add the MPPK to the mix and you got a real nice monster sound on road.
had a newborn as well with MPE and it's very subtle once warmed up and you don't really hear anything in cabin. i now start up is crazy loud but i don't think the exhaust is that impressionable on road after warm up. a few blips and blurps and definitely more exciting than stock but not great. nonetheless, the MPPK + MPE made a huge difference i thought more so then the delta between stock and MPE. enjoy!

Performance with MPE is insignificant. Maybe a few HP. You are really only going to notice the improved sound, beautiful beautiful sound.
Warmed up will depend on which mode you’re in and driving style. In comfort and eco you’ll notice it at low rpms. In Sport you’ll definitely hear it when you are getting on it and when it burps when shifting gears. It sound pretty awesome.

Sorry for hijacking the post, just don't want to create a separate one.
How to distinguish MPE from a regular one? My car came with the M Performance Package 1, which in Canada includes MPE, but I'm not so sure about MY2016...

Ok, I've checked 2016 ordering guide and looks like I've got no MPE, just MPPK.

OP where did you purchase the MPE? Looking to get a good deal on one and possibly the MPPK as well.
Thank you.

I'm trying to figure out the muffler difference between stock and MPE for the F15 35i. I looked up pictures of stock (18308679890) and of MPE (18302166934) and to me they look exactly the same which is bizarre considering how drastically different they sound.
Is the MPE muffler a smaller version of stock, just the same shape?

external wise they're exactly the same, its whats inside thats different re: less baffling and sound dampening material, also less piping. u can achieve similar results by cutting open the stock exhaust and removing some of the materials and reweld some pipes for 1/4 the cost.

Here's stock 35i muffler cut open (top picture) - you can see a lot of sound deadening material and a lot of open ended pipes - that makes sound waves to travel a longer route through insulating packaging and dissipate and bounce inside a lot before exiting muffler. Sound is muffled overall.
On a second photo you can see a MPE (it's for 135i, but it's same engine essentially) - you can see that there is no deadening packing or material and also pipes go straight through the muffler (there is just 1 section of perforated pipe to lessen a bit exhaust sound, but that's about it) - making sound exit almost unchanged. Hence louder "sportier" tone exhaust. Last edited by DuSh; 10-29-2018 at 09:47 PM.. |
