X5 M Sport open front grill w/ splitter mod

Hi all, just wondering what's the general view on this modification? Seems fairly easy to do, but not sure is it would enhance the over look of the front end. Any one already done this mod, please post a pic.

After additional research, the holes are already in the lower grills to mount the splitters. Anyone know why that is? I'm new to the forum so sorry if this question has already been asked and answered several times. Now that I see the holes are there, just wonder why don't more X5 enthusiasts go for this mod? I'm think custom paint the slippers gloss back to make the gloss back kidney grill and the combo could look kinda cool. Other thoughts?

I intend to leave the lower open. My splitter trim will be gloss black. Unless someone on this forum thinks I shouldn't based on my car's particular spec.

Ordered the open front grills. Decided not to get the little splitters for now. Hopefully it will look good without the splitters.

If anyone has pics of the open grills without the splitters on AW, would love to see em.

I don’t have open lower front grills, but I did add the small splitters. I had them covered in gloss carbon fiber wrap to try and match the OEM front lip splitter.

Very nice look! Think I will add the splitters but paint them gloss black to match the grill.

HomeIn2. How difficult was the wrap? I was planning to do the same thing. Thanks

The hood emblem is actually just the IND painted emblem with roundel sticker overlays - (2) gloss black stickers and (2) gloss dark CF stickers.

The small splitter wraps were really super easy for me…I had a pro do them! In all seriousness, I think he did two strips per splitter; a top and bottom. The top one slightly overlapped the bottom strip and you can’t even tell. Clear Bra was also added over the wrap in a similar fashion. It’s been over a year and they are holding up just fine.

Sorry, this is about as good as I can do. Perhaps you can zoom in on it. These pics were of my previous X5 that I sold last fall.

Did you end up doing the mod? I'd love to check out the pics. I am considering it myself and I'd do gloss black.

Also, to attach it, do you just connect it in the holes of the grille and then double sided tape on the part that connects to the actual bumper cover?

When I did my conversion to MSport - Ben gave me the choice of the two front mesh styles...fully closed and the other had the lower part open. I went with the 1/2 open. On both - you can still see the 4 small holes on each side. I bought the small splitters, too...in case the holes bothered me.

Lasted 2 days and i could not stop obsessing about the holes.

So I installed the splitters. The splitters split apart...you then screw the back part on with 4 anchors that the screws go into.

Super easy - just have to make sure not to over tighten the screws to the anchors. The grills are not that sturdy, so I could see where it could be over done.

See attached pic - enlarge it to see the holes. Its on EVERY one!

I wouldn't paint gloss black. It won't match the black or the rest of the bumper and will just look off. I used a can of "trim paint" and it came out pretty great. Still a smudge more glossy than oem bumper plastics but impossible to tell unless in the right light.

If you decide to do it, make sure it matches all other grills!
