That's the normal 6WA gauge cluster. You can see the needles and the opening in the chrome/silver trim around the two main gauges faces down. The 6WB cluster has no needles when powered off as it's completely an LCD and the opening in the trim around the gauge "areas" face inward.
Ah makes sense. Thanks for the explanation.

Have had the car for just over 3 weeks now. we've put 450 miles on her and only consumed half a tank of petrol. Not bad going - it helps that our commute is only 12 miles daily which we're able to do easily on a full charge.

Well, my order is in. I'll be joining you all with my own 40e sometime in September or early October. I opted for an M Sport in glacial silver with black leather and the brushed aluminum trim.

I grabbed most of the options but passed on the Cold Weather Package (it hasn't been below freezing in two years), Parking Assistant (I never parallel park...) and the B&O sound system (the HK sounded decent enough for me).

I had been hoping 6WB would be an option in the US but I'll settle for iDrive 5 and CarPlay. I do wish they would make a black Nappa leather option. I would have splurged on that without hesitation.

Since my commute is just a hair over three miles, I'll probably spend a lot of time on electric power and I'm really looking forward to that.

Unlike other chassis, the F15 comes with 360° cameras and you get Auto-PDC without requiring Parking Assistant option.

My commute is 3X as long, but I still spend the majority of my time on pure electric.

Enjoy.

I pick up my 2016 in Mineral White over black Dakota leather on Saturday! Whomever ordered the car appeared to say "yes" when asked what options they'd like. I think the B&O system is the only option box not checked. Getting a stupid good deal from Greg Poland over at Pacific BMW in Glendale, CA.

Just about to pass 900 miles on the clock and still on the first tank of petrol, showing about a quarter of a tank left. If I wasn't going on a 1500 mile road trip next week, where only a minority of the drive will be on electric, I reckon I'd have got to 1100-1200 miles before my first fill up!

Anyone else with a 2017 40e on order? My X5 was built on 8/3 and transferred to the VPC on 8/5. The issue I'm having is that the work order hasn't started due to an "engineering data" hold. I've heard the "EPA hasn't certified them yet" bit so I've got A reason...

...I'm just wondering if I'm alone with my problem or if it's just the state of the new 40e's for now?

Just picked up mine on the 25th, and I'm in love with it. First X5, First hybrid/electric car.
Its like the M enthusiasts after their first M car... can't drive anything else.

How do you know if you have a 2017 40e? Mine left US mid-August (I collected it last Thursday & clocked 600 miles so far. No, I'm not getting good MPG ). It has a different screen than the ones I tested early summer, & the iDrive button layout/labels are different - does that help identify?

That indeed means you're driving a 2017 model (new iDrive 5.0, higher resolution screen etc...)

Picked mine up on Friday last week (9/23), ordered on 9/9. The whole delivery process was much faster than we expected compared to the X3 we ordered 3 years ago. Very pleased with it so far!

I am currently driving a 35d. I average 27 MPG.

I typically have an 18 mile commute each way, sometimes requiring more than one trip. A good part of the ride is freeway.

I am concerned that I won't get the best gas mileage unless I can find an outlet at my workplace.

Will the car recharge the battery while driving on the freeway, or only when coasting and braking?

What do you guys think?

If you are using all electric, you will drain the battery but can make the full commute one way. Using sport mode and battery save, will charge the battery during drive better whether on free or side streets if braking and coasting.

I did not know about Sport Mode + Battery Save. Good to know!

I heard the i8 did that but didn't think it extended to the 40e

I have 12 mile commute each way. You aren't going to make 18 miles on all electric. Not possible unless it's downhill the whole way.

I get about 33mpg on my commute. Still don't have a good handle on how much I'm paying for recharging the batteries every night. Working on that...

Now, when I had a bunch of errands to run around the neighborhood a couple of weekends ago, I was at 50+mpg for the 80 miles I covered. Lots of short trips and I always plug in when I get home regardless of the time of day.
