Question for M50D owners
Can someone take a picture of the lower intake in the middle of the front bumper? There is one on the left and one on the right. I think I'm missing a part between the grill part and the intake itself. I searched for photos on the web, but due to the bad contrast I couldn't see the specific part. I need a picture taken up close with a flash.
Who can help me out? |

I didn't noticed before, but it seems that is the same...it looks like something is missing...maybe there is something on the after market to fill the gap...some fog lights or daytime leds...

Really!! I'm actually a little shocked. I'm a car enthusiast and owned 11 or 12 BMW's and always loved their build quality. I'm able to notice the difference in quality between BMW, Mercedes, Audi. Especially when it has some miles on it. This is my first X5 and I have to say that I'm a bit disappointed with the build quality. I don't find it a good reference to BMW standards.
I bought the X5 about a month ago (second owner) and started cleaning the car inside and out. This is a good method to find out all sort of things about your car. And I came across several things that made my eyebrows rise. Don't get me wrong it's really good car, but I think this car costs around 110.000€ new. And that's almost the same as my 640D Gran Coupe. And I really feel the 640 is much more refined. In the pictures you can see the difference in detail about the part we're talking about. |

I have looked today more carefully and I discovered that the plastics are not even making contact in the bottom of the whole...looks like they are broken...really poor finishing...

Agreed, that looks incredibly un-finished to say the least. Does BMW have anything to say about it?

Maybe because X5 is one SAV - Off-road vehicle and one 6Series is not.
I don't think BMW will leave it so "unfinished" Maybe if the Front bumper will hit something then it have a few inches to move with braking any plastic.... Just my 2 cents |

I don't think that is the case. All BMW's are luxury vehicles. Even my totally rebuild Jeep wrangler has no impact openings for collisions. This is just poor craftsmanship and it's not BMW worthy. I've never seen this poor finishing on my previous owned BMW's. And I'm still under the impression that there should be some sort of endpiece that fits in those holes.
