Thanks. These are just replicas of the 468M wrapped in the staggered OEM Pirelli Scorpion Ice and Snows in 20".

New to the forum - hello all!

With the deep freeze that NY has been under, and the impending snow storm, I should be able to get some pretty sweet snow shots of my new F15.

X54TH, your setup looks sweet!

Thank you! Love the X5. It's our second. Our first one had 18" winters on it with the extended wheel arches. I hated that look. I like the 20" staggered setup. It looks proper.

I'm a bit upset today. They are replacing the engine on my son's 2016 M235. Thank god for the warranty.

I love it. My business partner has had a bunch of them, and I finally took the plunge. I currently have the 467M wheels, and while I like them, would love to upgrade and get some wiiiiide 20's. The 467Ms don't really fill the gap like I'd like. What happened to your son's engine?

One thing with the staggered 20's is the cost of the tires. I did those puppies in the Pirelli RFT's. They were really expensive...more than twice the cost of the rims.

Took his M235 in today to the dealership because we notice a faint rattle sound upon acceleration in Sports Mode. Told me the engine bearings are gone. Gave me a free rental and said we'll see you in 2 to 3 weeks after they install a new engine. That just sucks. The X5 has been flawless and my daughter's 230 as well. The M235 was great up until this point!

Yeah, so I've heard. Definitely going to have to wait it out and weigh some options.

Sheesh! The engine just up and went? Happy it's under warranty.

Good thing it was. Curious to know what an engine costs. I'll get the details tomorrow.

Most snow we've had in a decade! Thanks global warming! Haha PS first time driving her in the snow and she crushed my expectations. Not even on winter tires! Very impressed.

This new X5 diesel just loves the snow. Until I tried to go down an unplowed street with 18” of snow and drifts to 2-3 feet. But up to a foot it is, without a doubt, the best vehicle I have driven in snow.

For substantial accumulation you need a vehicle with air suspension and 4x4 not AWD. The real LR/RR set ups with center diff, low range gear box etc. but for most applications and conditions the X5 does well and the Achilles heel being ride height (ground clearance) and or improper tires.

Hi,
I'm considering the same times for my X6. Are you happy with them?
(this is my first BMW so I'm still learning of all this car has to offer).

Thanks!

Of course all seasons don’t help. But all day during the snow storm, whether the streets were cleaned well or not, I was fine—- just as long as they were plowed even once.

Yea they're fantastic! Keep in mind though with 315's out back they'll hydroplane a lot easier than smaller tires, much like the summer set. However overall I'm very satisfied and feel loads more confident on the snow/slush/ice.

How much of the 'hydroplane'? I honestly think I bought a too powerful car :-) Right now I'm having the standard set of RFTs (probably for summer as they spun like crazy when it snowed (and icy) the other day).

I can't wait to get snow tires on.

And do you have any emergency kit in your car for emergency (i.e. tire sealant) since you don't have spare?
Thanks so much for your input!

I didn't mean to scare you with hydroplaning! I just mean that the wide tires don't 'cut' through slush and pools of water as much as a narrower tire. However going with these winters is immensely better than the current summers that came with the car!

And I don't carry a tire sealant kit as I have CAA (Canadian AAA) and I don't want to mess up the TPMS with sealant slime.

Also as a note, these non-RFT winter tires don't actually run that much softer/smoother than the summer RFT's, however I didn't find the summers too be too rough.

I can totally relate, I had the same revelation during a white-knuckle, crap your pants moment in a Cayenne Turbo on 20" Michelin Diamiris during an intense early Autumn snowstorm on Vail Pass.

A coworker and I talk BMW stuff all day long. We both marvel at why in the world BMW insists on putting "summer performance" tires on cars that come to any part of the country that will see snow

She sent me this today; I almost blew coffee through my nose i laughed so much.....

It isn't just BMW it's any high performance vehicle. At the point of sale on most models you have the option of all-season or summer when building or the ability to buy a dedicated winter set of wheels and tires a discounted rate versus later on down the road. The sales person is supposed to inform the driver and in some areas they sign stating they are aware their vehicle is equipped with summer tires and have been informed.
