The sales person is supposed to inform the driver and in some areas they sign stating they are aware their vehicle is equipped with summer tires and have been informed.
That's my point exactly!! I wasn't informed at all!

Ya I had my back end kick out here and there but nothing throttle control and AWD didn't easy fix. I never felt uncomfortable with the 12" of snow we got here in Virginia Beach (an area who's infrastructure can't handle a dusting much less a foot). And that was on my stock Dunlop RFT which I'm sure are summer tires cuz they don't say A/S on them anywhere. But I know not ideal set up and if it snowed more than once or twice a year I would get a different set of wheels but can't justify the money.

Conti DSW06's mounted and balanced today. Dunlop RFTs bagged and saved for reinstallation prior to lease turn in.

Did you go over the vehicle when you took delivery? At a minimum you should have noticed that on every demo/showroom model or on the BMW configuration online.

The aftermath of a winter weekend in Vermont. Enough salt to keep Frito-Lay supplied for a week and an appointment with the glass guy on Tuesday!

I guess ‘politely expressing concerns’ doesn’t hurt. I was at BMW today to have winter tires installed. I talked to the GM and expressed my concerns about some issues with the car and especially the fact that I wasn’t informed that i was getting summer tires when i was buying the car and almost ran into accident when it snowed last time because the car couldn’t handle snow/ice. Well, i was very ‘polite’ about it. He offered to cover 1/2 of the tires expense ($700!).

The Gray looks really cool with the Carbon Black. Now I'm tempted to turn my 469m's Black
Nice winter set-up! I got a set of OEM 449s with Bilzzaks. I am in the Bedford/Manchester area.

Using it!! Although I'm running Pirelli scorpion assymetrico - not ideal but they are relatively new. X5 drove well through the windy roads up to big bear ca. Only lost traction once in black ice but easily recovered.

LOL...hey! that's my X5! I've been using those Pirelli Scorpion Ice & Winter tires since day one through just about everything imaginable and its never failed to impress me. I don't recall noticing one single incident where the X5 wouldn't stop well or slide out of control or even a bit. These tires IMPRESS me time and time again so I'm actually on my second set of these tires. I change them out in the fall and again in the spring.

Earlier this month I went on my annual heliskiing trip about 400 miles North of where I live and the roads up there are pretty bad. Here are some photos taken from the road trip up there....she got pretty DIRTY!

You couldn't even see the roundel caps after I got back...this was on the way up.

Starting to get pretty bad.

On the morning of the return trip I went to my X5 only to find that it had a couple of inches of frozen snow all over the windshield and it was 5 degrees F. Time to get to work getting all those off! Took a while to carefully remove everything.

After finally making it home I gave her a THOROUGH well deserved bath

But after driving her around for a couple miles on the highway I noticed quite a bit of vibration which as it turns out were due to all those pebbles I picked up from the road trip so off I went to work getting all those out. There were a fair amount! That got rid of the vibration!

I have the same color and the same engine. Very rare color around here. Back in summer i was actually stopped by a E70 owner (complete stranger) to ask me what color was it as he intended to trade his E70 for an F15.
Here is a picture of mine on the delivery date.
