Ya I had my back end kick out here and there but nothing throttle control and AWD didn't easy fix. I never felt uncomfortable with the 12" of snow we got here in Virginia Beach (an area who's infrastructure can't handle a dusting much less a foot). And that was on my stock Dunlop RFT which I'm sure are summer tires cuz they don't say A/S on them anywhere. But I know not ideal set up and if it snowed more than once or twice a year I would get a different set of wheels but can't justify the money.

Conti DSW06's mounted and balanced today. Dunlop RFTs bagged and saved for reinstallation prior to lease turn in.

The aftermath of a winter weekend in Vermont. Enough salt to keep Frito-Lay supplied for a week and an appointment with the glass guy on Tuesday!

I guess ‘politely expressing concerns’ doesn’t hurt. I was at BMW today to have winter tires installed. I talked to the GM and expressed my concerns about some issues with the car and especially the fact that I wasn’t informed that i was getting summer tires when i was buying the car and almost ran into accident when it snowed last time because the car couldn’t handle snow/ice. Well, i was very ‘polite’ about it. He offered to cover 1/2 of the tires expense ($700!).

Using it!! Although I'm running Pirelli scorpion assymetrico - not ideal but they are relatively new. X5 drove well through the windy roads up to big bear ca. Only lost traction once in black ice but easily recovered.

LOL...hey! that's my X5! I've been using those Pirelli Scorpion Ice & Winter tires since day one through just about everything imaginable and its never failed to impress me. I don't recall noticing one single incident where the X5 wouldn't stop well or slide out of control or even a bit. These tires IMPRESS me time and time again so I'm actually on my second set of these tires. I change them out in the fall and again in the spring.
Earlier this month I went on my annual heliskiing trip about 400 miles North of where I live and the roads up there are pretty bad. Here are some photos taken from the road trip up there....she got pretty DIRTY! BMW X5 road trip by Jason Tang, on Flickr On the morning of the return trip I went to my X5 only to find that it had a couple of inches of frozen snow all over the windshield and it was 5 degrees F. Time to get to work getting all those off! Took a while to carefully remove everything. There were a fair amount! That got rid of the vibration! BMW X5 pebbles by Jason Tang, on Flickr |

I have the same color and the same engine. Very rare color around here. Back in summer i was actually stopped by a E70 owner (complete stranger) to ask me what color was it as he intended to trade his E70 for an F15. Here is a picture of mine on the delivery date. |
