Service Issue
Hello All,
I'm new to the X5 forum, got the (wife)car in June. I drive a 128i for the past eight years and past wife cars 2004 X3 and 2013 X3. So I've reading for a while the forums "Great Place for Information"! Well here's my story I took in my car for the oil service. I've been with the same dealer and service since day one. Never had an issue until now. The car went on Friday and I always check the car by the outside. I didn't realize that it looks like someone had a screwdriver in there pocket and punctured the drivers door panel. Has anyone had service damage while there car was in service and what has been the outcome? I don't care if it's a Hyundai or BMW, I always take care of my cars as I have not found money growing on tress. |

I have been lucky, but important thing to do, whether it is valet or BMW service, is examine vehicle and point out any issues before you leave. Prior to handing vehicle over, an SA with do exterior vehicle inspection; this can protect you the same as it can the dealership.

I've had excellent dealer experience with crappy service experiences.. Once I had the roof of my E60 all scratched up when one dealer used those number cones to attach to the cars roof. Dealer of course denied fault... after several back and forth with the managers they ended up buffing and polishing the roof. Fortunately the minor scratches were taken care of. Sometimes, dealers have careless workers tending to your car and you get unlucky. I guess that's why most people like to DIY

Man, that sucks.
When I first got my car, after getting my car back from its first service, driving it home I noticed there was a small scratch on the bottom of my steering wheel. From the position it looked like someone cut it with their wedding band since it was exactly aligned to the ring finger would be on the left hand if they turned the wheel one handed. I went back to the dealer and they said they couldn't do anything, but they would get it looked at by their "leather repair specialist," of course to this this day they never fixed it. I think they just forgot about it, but honestly so did I. The only reason they even offered to fix it in the first place was I saw the tech with the wedding band. Personally I should have pushed harder for maybe even a replacement steering wheel, but they were actually otherwise really nice people to deal with and my friends all thought the steering wheel problem just seem so minor since you can barely see the marks. Anyways I don't live anywhere near that dealer now, so there is nothing to do for me. Your problem actually seems very noticeable and I hope they get this resolved for you.

on my previous 2015 x3 carbon black, not sure who did the damage tech or valet but someone hit the yellow post. The rear bumper and lower trim had yellow paint. I usually keep my cars clean, right before drop off so the pictures taken are clear. The manager pull up the pictures taken the day I drop it off...sure enough no damages were visible. They had to repaint rear bumper and order new diffuser.

[QUOTE=cgiibanez;21313230]Hello All,
Has anyone had service damage while there car was in service and what has been the outcome? Happened to me today, but at bottom of panel. The front door trim panel assembly is $3500 cad. Go back to dealer immediately get them to admit its their fault. In my case they had to open door panel to replace light in door handle. Good luck. |

Update Good news!!
My service advisor backed me up and it would be repaired. I dropped the car off on Monday and should be done next week. A little long, but I just wanted repaired. Now that this happened to me and the car setting in the lot for week, I get worried. I'm thinking positive and hoping for a good outcome. Will keep you guys posted. |

Are they fixing or replacing? I recently had an issue where my dealer did some work on door panel and when I got the car back it was clear the panel had been replaced with another one from a another used car. A blemish that was on my original was no longer there but there were now spots amd a tear like yours on lower outer area and severe scuffs on bottom plastic part where your foot would hit pushing the door open. I met with service mgr amd they agreed after some time to replace the entire door panel with a brand new one. goood luck!

Finally got the call that car was done. I rushed from work to the dealer which a good 40 miles from my job. I told the valet don't worry about cleaning the car. As he is bringing the car to me he hits the side wall of the rim as he makes a turn. I could not believe this. He gives the keys and tells me to have a nice day. I almost had a heart attack. I said dude did you not see that you scratch the rim? I just could not understand why. I been going to same dealer for over 15 years never had an issue. I think what's happening BMW service is hiring minimum wage employees which really don't care. After this I'm really thinking is it worth the headache of having a BMW because service is included. At this point I'm not a very happy camper. Too much for these cars and not living up to par. I'm really debating on trading in my 128i for a Jeep Wrangler and start from there. Sorry for the long complain, but I'm a very pissed off guy with the service dept. and by the way the panel was repaired and you can tell it was repaired.

Sad man, raise hell. What happened to them replacing the panel? Sorry but told you a fix would be visible. Never settle for a fix, never. Good luck, I would suggest a strong call to the service manager and if not happy then the dealer's GM.

Call BMW NA - they will intervene on your behalf. I have personally had them reduce out of warranty service bills by half as a good will measure to repeat customers. It is not acceptable for any dealer to return a vehicle to you with damage that wasn't pre-existing. They usually just instruct the dealer to bill BMW NA for the parts and labor instead of the customer. BMW NA has a pool of funds that is used for this type of thing that they claim against an insurance policy.

Is it possible your seat belt got caught in the door and slammed shut?
And repaired vinyl looks like poo. I would not accept it. Will they repair your rim? |

That's definitely frustrating (both the door and the rim). My front bumper was scratched while the dealer had my X5 for service last year. I didn't notice the scratch until I had arrived back home that evening. I snapped a photo and e-mailed my CA. With very little coaxing, they offered to have the bumper painted, as the scratch was too deep to buff out...it had also gouged the plastic of the bumper itself and needed to be filled prior to paint.
