M Sport steering wheel swap?
Probably was already asked, but is there a simple way to somehow swap my stock non M steering wheel (no paddle shifters, no heat) to an M Sport steering wheel? Even without paddle shifters. So basically can i just buy M Sport steering wheel and airbag from ebay and put it in or it will be a nightmare and i shouldn't touch it?
For example I've seen M Sport steering wheel with SRS airbag with paddle shifters for about $800 with shipping https://www.ebay.com/itm/BMW-M-SPORT....c100005.m1851 |

I'm pretty sure you can. The mechanical connection is the same. In the worst case, just live with the paddle shifters even if they don't work for you! I have a bare bones M wheel with a few bad leather patches.
Can sell for cheap and you would only need the M trim piece. You should be able to keep your center/air bag piece. |

They are different airbags. You'll need to get an entirely new steering wheel assembly. Everything past the hub is different.

Repeatedly asked him about the airbag.. I. E. Whether it was recalled etc. He reassured me it is ok. I do think though that if airbag does not send proper signal, a CEL is thrown. Let's hope it will never be needed. |

Was it an OEM airbag with legitimate BMW serial numbers & identifiers? I think that's what Gilly is getting at...if it's a bum airbag you won't find out until it's too late. Can't say I'd feel comfortable without knowing the source, origin, chain of custody, etc...not just for me, but for my wife and kids in case one of them is driving.

But will ask dealer to check next time around. Brand new round two stage airbags are around $600 in US. Latvia has become the European Mecca of aftermarket body parts and cheaper OEM parts. |
