Flickering hvac backlighting on startup?

I recently picked up a 2015 x5 with 40k still in warranty. It's been awesome so far, hasn't missed a beat. I noticed something odd tonight. I unlocked the car and turned it on. I noticed that all the ambient lights were on, headlights on.. but the hvac and the backlights of the hvac/radio were off. I toggled the lights on and off and it didn't work. I saw the backlights flicker and when I pressed the auto button everything turned back on, including the hvac.. this entire process was about 10 seconds.

This ever happen to anyone?

About 5 min prior my two year old was playing with my cars remote pressing lock and unlock.. maybe this was a causative issue?
