"Full Bolt On"F15/F16?

I'm curious to know if someone here has a full bolt on F15/F16. Is it even possible or are all the parts not made for our engine setup? From what I gather, "full bolt on" includes:

Tune
Intake
Charge pipe
Intercooler
Down pipe
Exhaust

I understand what the tune, intake, and exhaust does.

Is the charge pipe to prevent the stock one from breaking under the increased turbo pressure? Or does it improve boost flow as well?
Intercooler prevents the turbo from overheating, correct? Does it improve the air quality by making it cooler as well?
What's the purpose of the down pipe?

Does one brand make all the components for the F15/F16? Or do you have to piece a full bolt on from several sources?

Consider downpipe - first portion of exhaust (and most important) - it reduces exhaust pressure that eventually will take off small amount of workload from turbo and engine (by removing catalytic converters that require some amount of power to push exhaust fumes through them) - you'll gain 10-20hp with a tune that can take advantage of that
Intercooler doesnt'affect turbo since it's downstream of it, but cools air coming from turbo and air becomes more dense - and then it goes into engine - hence engine can produce more power with all else been equal. It won't increase top power, but it will allow engine to output max power longer (eventually most inter-coolers will heat-soak - just matter of time)

Never heard of an intercooler change for N63TU as their not your typical air exchanger.

I think OP is referring to N55 (he seems to have 35i). As a side note - I wonder if we n63tu owners can swap inter-coolers for F85 ones? They are bigger

Yes, I should have been more specific. I do have a 35i and the question does pertain to N55. But it's a valid question for both platforms, correct?

What is your goal? A lot can be accomplished with just a tune/piggyback.

Supersprint has a lot of what you are looking for.

These fuys might also: http://www.fi-exhaust.com/product/bmw/f16_x6_35i.html

Thanks for the note and the help!

I'm just trying to educate myself more than anything right now. I'm new to the BMW community and I'm learning alot reading these forums. The general threads are very informative about the N55 but most of that is 1-, 2-, 3- and 5- series. Especially 3-.

I thought I'd ask about what's done/possible on the F15/F16 specifically (35i).

They definitely do! I'm going to take a guess though that the price is outrageous!

I don't think there is going to be a single manuf that has the full list of bolt ons you're looking for. The aftermarket for F15/F16 is pretty weak. You'll have to do some piece mealing to get what you'd want.

With that said, a lot of people are running some pretty serious tunes/piggybacks with stock intake/cooling/exhaust with no issues. For sound, many (including myself) get the MPE.

I have most bolt-on stuff on my F15 sDrive35i.

I can get most of them all together if you are interested.

since the 35i has the n55, and the intercoolers for the n55/n20/n26,etc. are all interchangeable. does that mean I could fit an aftermarket intercooler (say n55 evolution racewerkes) on my f15?

PM me what you are after and I'll put together the quote tomorrow.
I have so many mods in mine, so unless you want to do the same, I need a list.

That's a great thread! Just starting reading it...11 pages left! I love that you documented some of the mods impact on the dyno. I see you're in CA. Alot of those engine mods are not CARB approved, correct? Are you going to remove them before you have to get the car smogged?

Great question! I r33_RGSport, I didn't see intercooler as one of your mods. Have you thought of doing that?

I no longer have it.
Lease was over about a year ago.

Current project is G30 540i.

Couple of the mods on the F15 are not CARB approved.
So, if you want them, you'll have to be ready for the hassle.

FMIC wise, the owner of ER said that the F15/F16 X5/X6 already equipped with bigger FMIC. So no necessary for an upgrade.

Is this the BMS N55 air intake you used? Do you think it actually helped? Currently, the engine seems to have a nice cold air source with a ram effect pulling air from behind the kidney. With that, engine compartment air is mixed with the air coming in from the inlet. I can see how the filer might be a better breather, but the current setup is a pretty good CAI design. Can't say much for the cartridge filter, however. Opinions?

gains are minimal if any. It's possible you will lose some power at low speeds due to heat soak as the filter is not shielded. People buy this for the sound.

I had this on my 135i and installed it before any other mods. I didn't notice any difference in performance but it sure sounded good...and that's the reason I got it.

No, it is the shorter pipe.
That is for E9x N55 engine.

Gain wise, you don't feel it without a tune.
With a tune, less restrictive air intake helps.
Supposedly, just using K&N drop in filter will do the same.
Just some people prefer to have open air box to hear the turbo sound.

LOVE the sound with this intake. Def worth the money just for that alone.
