Looking to get a 35i/50i are they reliable?

Are they good beaters? I do a love of driving for work and I'm wondering if they're reliable or not.

Thanks!

Yes. No common issues. Most reliable of the x5 engines.

35i has a n55 engine which is produced from 2009 till nowadays and it's one of the most reliable engines currently BMW has. Can't go wrong with it.
50i is another story - you don't need that power for a beater car lol

i've been on the forum a while, and dont recall of any complaints. but if you google 'bmw n55 engine reliability', you can get a better idea, since this engine is also used in other models.

x5 f15 only has rear trunk rattle (fixable) and steering column servo adjustments may stop working (known bug). Other than that x5 f15 (2014-2018) is a solid SAV imho

I'm at 78K with a 50i and it runs great. No rattles or anything and I'm driving in New England.

50i Security here running strong with 30k, zero problems so far other than eating through my first set of brakes prematurely because of the weight.

I can tell you though:

If you get a 50i make sure you get DHP, otherwise your engine will outrun your suspension.

i had a 3 series before and i can tell you, this thing is built so much better than the 3 series, everything is a lot more reinforced and well put together.

the x5 50i with DHP manages weight so well i barely notice its 1.2 tonnes heavier because of the steel armor plates and thicker windows. Same suspension setup, brakes and engine from a normal X5.

May we ask why you "need" a Security model?!

We have a '16 35i and live 2 miles up a rutted, washboard poorly maintained SW Virginia dirt road. I wouldn't call our F15 a beater but it's certainly not babied either. After 2 years and approx. 30,000 miles we've had no problems at all, no rattles or electronic issues. Great car!

To stop the occasional bullet from entering the cabin. Removing them from my arms and torso is a pain in the ass sometimes so kudos to bmw for coming up with such a reliable product.
