X6 F16 Headlight Bulb Change?

Hi guys,

I noticed that my headlights are not LED

They are also not particularly bright as I'd like.

I understand that they are a D1S HID bulb. So I was thinking of upgrading them to a 6000k or 8000k HID bulb.

Has anyone changed one before? Was is easy? How is the D1S held in place?

Many thanks in advance

What colour temperature are the stock bulbs? I thought they were 4500k...i.e. Less pure white looking

The colour temperature change will not improve visibility.

Agree.

But in my personal opinion, I think the whiter bulb (6000k) looks better.
Have you ever fitted these bulbs? How are they held in place?

Most OEM bulbs are 4300k which I believe is the whitest light. 6000k will be bluer and also look less bright.

Get Osram CBI. Have them in my F15 and ran them in my JGC. Light output is same as oem but much whiter. Lots of reviews and tests out there on this bulb.

Installation is also super easy. Far easier than I was expecting based on experience on E36, E46 and JGC.

Some good info and testing against other bulbs here: https://www.hidplanet.com/forums/for...-d2s-bulb-test

Edit: Looks like Osram has come out with two newer models, the CBH and CBB. They are incrementally more expensive. both have a higher K rating. Not sure what the sacrifice in visibility is. Also be wary of fakes and be sure you purchase from a reputable retailer.

OP, as CeeTeeX5 pointed out above, read up at HIDPlanet. Lots of good info. Sounds like you want a better "look" vs actual improvement in light output. 8000K is horribly fake purple. The reason i3 headlights appear purple is because of the optics, not because of the bulb temp.
5000K is the most I'd personally go up.

Went with the osaram CBB so much brighter than stocks in the f15. Installation was super easy just pull down the connector and twist the bulb a little and it pulls right out. No clips or tabs that has to be removed or pulled apart. Wayyyyy easier than a e70 and you have a lot of room. Super happy with the light output with the cbb and you get a nice white light with a slight bulb tint depending on the angle you look at it but big difference from stock.

If anyone wants a pair of Sylvania SilverStar (aka Osram CBI) bulbs let me know. I got them like 8 years ago when I had my E70, but all my cars have LEDs now.

Do you remember which way to twist to remove?
Is it right to install and Left to remove?

I tried both ways, it seemed like I was exerting too much force, so I stopped. Thanks in advance.

I have HIDs - and bought the bulbs - Ben tried to swap them but could not.

Are they plug and play with the Xenon and adaptive lights?

They are plug and play. Extremely simple.

Same as a screw: anti-clockwise to remove, clockwise to install (as you view it from the engine bay). You do need to use more force than I initially felt comfortable with.

The higher you go in Kelvin the actual less lumens you have so while you think a 6000K bulb is brighter than a 4500K bulb its an optical illusion because it's whiter (given everything else is equal in the bulbs). I agree with prior posts that close to 5000k is the way to go, I'm not a fan of the hint of blue in 6000k bulbs.

Official Osram CBI or CBB are the way to go.
