f16 x6 m sport

hi guys

looking at buying an x6 with the m package. my only concern is that with 2 toddlers getting in and out of the back seats, is the side skirt durable? i.e can it be stood on? or will i need the side step addition?

cheers

can you atleast put a decent amount of weight onto them? its only for a toddler to use as a step.. i.e no more than 50-60lbs

I would go with a x5 over an x6 with two toddlers. You need all the room you can get with kids and the x6 is just too small in the back seats.. getting them in and out of cars sears will not be fun with low roof..

I would not use the side skirts for any kind of step.

No, the side skirts are not steps and I’m not sure how you could even use them as such.

agree with Redline. You should get a X5 M-Sport instead.

Ducking into the backseat because of the roofline slope holding a toddler is a sure recipe for a bad back.

The X6 is not the best option for a family. I sat in the back of mine for the first time a few days ago and I had absolutely no extra head room. I would imagine getting car seats in and out the rear would be kinda tight.

my wife has an x5, and we use that when we are all together. so i dont really want 2 x5s

i am currently doing the school run in an e92, so just having back doors will be a luxury for me.

the m sport side skirts on the x6 is wide.. VERY wide... and lower than the door sill.. they would actually be perfect if they were able to take the weight.

the sales rep at my local bmw dealer said that they can be stood on... i might go back there and ask her to demonstrate...

I guess my F16 MSport didn’t come with the extra wide side skirts then. Here is my F16, can you tell me if mine is missing the ‘side skirt’ and/or where someone can step?

Your M sport looks just like mine. No difference.

To the OP, like others have said, it would not be a good idea to put excessive weight on the "side skirt" of this car.

If you're adamant about getting an X6 M sport, I'm sure you can work with your dealership or go aftermarket and have the actual running boards installed, while keeping the unique front and rear bumpers associated with the M sport model.

That would be the best compromise, IMHO

I think the term side skirt and running board might be getting mixed up. I don't see how anyone could step on a side skirt when it's a vertical piece.

This is what the X5 can be equipped with. I don't think the X6 can be equipped with these as I've never seen them on a X6

Running boards are available for X6 F16. Check the Accessories Catalogue.

open the door, there is plenty of available area on the side skirt for a toddler to step on.. then you will get my point. I know it doesn't protrude beyond the door like a running board, but there is ample depth there.

I don't understand this. I have running boards on my X5 with the M sport fenders. Why is everyone saying it wouldn't work.

I don’t understand why you bothered to make a thread and ask he question when it sounds like you already have your mind made up. Those of us that own or have owned F16 have stated it’s not a good idea, but you seem adamant that the M sport ‘side skirt’ can be used as a step.
Go for it.

I did not say they would not work... I said bmw says they don’t fit and do not support it....

And then said people on the forums have made it work...
