Adaptive cruise control

I was almost positive (and when I get back to my car, I'll get the VIN again and check) that I had ACC. I initially thought that it just activates when getting close to vehicles but I tested it and it didn't work obviously.

Then I looked it up and it says there are extra buttons on the steering wheel, which I don't have....however, I have an m-sport and I can't seem to find a picture of an m-sport wheel with those buttons. Or is it different in Canadian vehicles? Or do I just not have it lol

If you have ACC you would have a button to adjust the distance, on the left side of the steering wheel, and also the radar location would be visible in the front bumper, under the registration plate.

Maybe a bit off topic here but, aside from the regular cruise control which I use and find useful for long distances, I'm not intrigued by ACCs or any technology that would drive the car for me. I like cars that need a driver, not a conductor!
Perhaps it's my manual transmission background...
Obviously, any new technology is fascinating, especially with HUD and all these electronics in front of you.

ACC is certainly not new, nor is HUD. We've had ACC on many of our vehicles for almost twenty years now. And HUD has been around since the 1980s. Both are just becoming more popular by becoming less expensive for manufacturers to offer (and hence more affordable to consumers).

This is why you see these options on more vehicles and less expensive vehicles. You can spend $19K on a Corolla and have ACC...and anywhere in the $20-30K range you'll find Kia, Hyundai, Subaru, Honda Civic, etc. all with ACC. And you can even get a Mazda3, Prius, and Mini Copper with HUD!

Now, my feeling is opposite of yours...ACC is awesome for road trips, use it all the time with our Escalade. For daily driving, standard cruise is better IMO. Too much traffic, lane changes, etc. for ACC during normal freeway driving/commuting. You'd find ACC slowing you down (and even slamming on the brakes) with your everyday driving.

But at 2am on a dark freeway, long trips, etc. ACC is just some piece of mind and helps keep you from working too hard.

The 2018 Escalade now has full speed ACC so you can come to complete stops and resume or engage cruise, and you can now switch between ACC and standard cruise (our 2016 you can only have one or the other...and I miss having standard).

With coding you can toggle from ACC to normal cruise assuming you have both, I love it in traffic jams in Chicago and for long hauls.

Point well taken, but I'd like to be engaged to the wheel, not feel like a passenger when I am in fact the driver!

You don't need coding for that.

Yeah I get your point there, I prefer to be an engaged driver as well.

However, on the mundane stretches of a road trip the ACC is much more preferable to me...because at that point I'm just getting from one spot to the next, on a boring flat freeway, so why not have a bit more relaxation!

From bmw.ca, you have to choose premium enhanced package, and then pay extra $2500 for driving assistance plus only to get this feature.

I have ACC on my X5, and it’s been really useful. But in my opinion, it does not worth the price.....

On top of that, you can also choose ACC with Stop and Go function and Traffic Jam Assist.

Ok, it’s in the cheat sheet so I assumed at least some of us needed it. Maybe they added as default in later model years

There is a difference between
- Collision detection (which activates when getting very close to vehicles) and is part of Driving Assistant in 2014 models. Only the light pops up and there is no braking.
- Adaptive Cruise control (which can be activated anywhere and is just like stop and go cruise control without any lane management) and comes with driving assistant plus. Light pops up and there is active braking. In my opinion it also gives much much better collision detection which is why I refuse to buy a car without ACC now. Especially here in Vancouver where tailgaiting in the norm.

Its not any different in Canadian vehicles than US vehicles (I have had both with ACC). Both my cars have been non-msport though.

You can read more here: http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=800924

Check this video on how the steering should look for m-sport:

Can't be "just" activated. Needs a whole retrofit with european sourced parts. There is a guy out in CA retrofitting it for F30 cars.

I love my ACC nothing like sitting in traffic or waiting at a light and letting your car do all your work for you

ACC is probably the only feature I miss from my 50i that my X5M does not have.
It was very convenient and practical feature to have and once you have that option it is very difficult to go back to not having it.

I really like ACC and after having it in this car I wont buy another newer car without it. I don't commute but when I do drives "into the city" about an hour and a half away it makes the drive so much more comfortable.

Its a little clunky at times and makes you squeeze your butt sometimes when you're coming up on stopped traffic going 65. Its never not stopped for me though.
