Damn, all these different reasons for DTMF. It's the worst, preceded by the much-dreaded BMW Hell Chime

+1 here with my X4 M40i.
I was coming out of a gas station and as I was making a right to get onto traffic, I accelerated and heard a loud “clunk”coming from under the car. This was followed by a loss of power and sluggishness, and last the dreadful warning. Taking it into the shop this AM. Will report on cause and fix! |

2013 X2 35i - Tensioner clicking / Overdrive Malfunction
I am reading through these threads in hopes of a clear answer...
My 2013 x3 35i with 140,000kms has been in the shop too many times this year. The coolant went then, the coolant line cracked and went then there was an oil leak and again the line was cracked and spurting. Now, the shop is telling me the clicking noise (that only showed up after these problems were fixed) is the tensioner. To me, it was always the tensioner/timing belt that was causing these issues that have added up over time. TO THE POINT - I am now getting Overdrive Malfunction error when getting up to 70km/h ( I have not gotten the tensioner fixed yet) could these be related? |

Probably a misfire. Then it's on to plugs, coils, injectors, basically in that order. That is unless your scanner tells you something about fuel pressure etc

hi
I have a 2018 x6 3.0D and it has thrown that DTMF code now 3 times, two in comfort mode going going up a small hill slowly and once in sport mode going up a step windy curvy road at a brisk pace. All cases went into limp mode which allows about 6mph with a lot of shaking. so I shut it off and waited 5 min then restarted and was fine again. but I am worried what this could be. sadly I did an upgrade using Esys to the HU and Nav and lost the prior error codes. only faults it has now is the rear defrost connector and a mirror auto dimmer malfunction. Can't be plugs or coil packs (diesel) and seems like the transmission started downshifting then upshifting like it was confused before the chime and screen came on. anyone with diesels solve this. I will wait until it happens again but I also see many updates to trans ECU and xdrive as well as the main motor ECU available since istep version 18-03-520, also thought about doing a regen on the DPF. car has only 24,000 miles (40,000kms). thoughts? edit: the code it throws is a DDE code 276400 internal fault. that's it? thanks Last edited by rmacgurn; 04-05-2023 at 03:31 PM.. |

Happened to my 2015 X5 35d yesterday. Dropped it off earlier today, I should find out tomorrow.
Unfortunately this is the 2nd time for me and if I remember correctly the first time, they had to replace the turbo. It was under warranty but if it hadn’t been I think it was like a $6k job or so. Praying it isn’t that again. I only have 58k miles!! |

2015 X5 50i. 72k miles all stock. Got the malfunction from misfires on cold starts. Car was shaking on startup for a while even before the codes so I knew something was up.
Replaced plugs coils and cleaned injectors. Also unfortunately needed to do valve cover gasket on one side. Wow that's an expensive repair. BMW quotes 15 hours of labor. Thankfully my independent shop did me a solid on that.

Having this on my 2015 x5. Every time you step on it it does this and shuts down. I will have to get the codes read. I know this is a warranty extention on the fuel injectors 10 years /120k miles.
if you dont get it on it never comes up but as soon as you even mildly hammer it it shuts right down... |
