Slightly Modded X35I Vs. Stock X50I

Let me start by I know, I should have got the V8 from the start. However, I do a lot of city/stop and go driving and rack up miles very quickly so I decided to go with the V6.

I just had the MPPK installed. I have a JB4 Stage 2, BMS CAI, Fabspeed Catted Downpipe, and MPE arriving next week to be installed.

Looking for your general opinion - do you think this setup gets close to the stock power (hp and trq) of a 50I?

I am wondering if the weight difference between the two would offset any power differences and have them equal out.

Let me know your thoughts and if anyone out there has a similar setup, let me know your experiences.

Thank you.

Yep, a modded 35i will touch stock 50i’s territory without question, just like a tuned 50i will reach M’s. One can always gets to the next level by appropriate modifications, And you can even go with bigger stage2 PureTurbos to reach next two levels.

Damn you guys! I promised myself I wouldn't mod my 35i but I have a feeling once my 22"s arrive I'll need at least a piggyback tune.

I spoke with Mike at Extreme Power House. He gave me a discount on The Fabspeed / JB4 package. From reviews of the DP options, it is the only vendor claiming no CEL without having to use O2 Sims.

I just bought it and will be getting it installed in about a week and half. I will report back once I get it installed. I have not seen too much on the forum about them. Most people go catless with their DP or a cheaper version of catted. I was ok with paying a little more if Fabspeed is stating no CEL.

I have a 35i with a down-pipe and MHD stage 2+ and can pull up on a stock 50i easily.

The weight difference is quite big. I actually raced my friend 50i last week, thats how I know!

Nice! I don't plan of beating on it too hard, but I want to know the power is there when I need it. I have a GL43 AMG guy that must be on the same schedule as me that likes to try to egg me on a little when we cross paths. I'd like to give him a little surprise.

From the start it is fast.. but when you hit higher speeds the I6 is no match to the v8 raw power. So still theres no replacement for displacement.

Wow, Fabspeed guarantee no CEL on catted downpipe?
AFAIK, it may give you CEL, especially once it aged.
That's why ER can't guarantee no CEL.

Ben,

I was also thinking the age of it could be a problem down the road if not an initial CEL. I only saw a very very low amount of comments that anyone said they got a CEL. The ones that did said they got a replacement. However most people are reporting still clear. Naturally can't believe everything you read online.

In the end I know it is a gamble and as it gets older I will more than likely get a CEL and I will be the one that is responsible for dealing with it. I guess I like the piece of mind that at least in the beginning I have a leg to stand on and argue if I get a CEL.

I guess we all ask ourselves the same question regarding tuned 3.5 vs 5.0 . What i have so far is mppk, mpe, jb+, ER cp and afe drop in. So far my best 0-60 is 5.3 sec. A 5.0 should do it within 5 sec flat, that was my goal to reach it also, but something went wrong with my RCU install, which Im trying to sort out now.. once all is done, I could race a 5.0 or/and run a quarter mile to see the numbers.
PS im still kind of upset of how underpowered this car is 2018 X6 3.5.. especially when compared to my previos bmw which was 2016 428i gc also slightly moded, which was a blast) I could never understand how a 2.0 car could do 0-60 in 4.5-4.6 sec))

I believe weight to power ratio plays a big role in performance and I'm sure aero dynamic helps too. Big tall suv vs low smaller sedan / coupe causes less drag and wind resistance.

Exactly) fuel consumption is much worse as well.. I live in NY and drive in S+ most of the time 😬

Didn't you just defeat the benefits of the V6 by doing all these mods?

Enjoy

And no one paid attention to that.
I would keep it stock. It’s a compromise but long term reliability is what I aim for these days.

Somewhat. Buyer's remorse. After buying it, I realize the 3.0 is ok, but still lacking a little. That being said, I drive in a lot of daily bumper to bumper traffic so I will still be getting some benefit of the 6 still. Now I will just have a little extra power when I do get the opportunity to open it up. I'm in ECO mode 2/3's of the time now.
