It's really not hard. Not intelligence required. Not to sound that you or anyone else isn't intelligent, I'm just trying to get across how simple this mod is.

It's 8 screws. 5 plugs. Then 9 plugs. Plug the harness in line with the new unit and put I'll back together. It's all literally color coded too.

So the auto 360 camera does not work and no work around.

Question for those who has it

1 - instead of auto 360, when you reverse does the camera appear? Rear view only or 360 once you hit reverse.
2 - auto 360 means when I'm pulling into garage and got really close, the camera activates. Does it mean it would no longer activate?
3 - what else doesn't work besides auto 360?

This is clearly explained over the last several pages.

For the CarPlay only units....Yes 360 camera is no longer activate by PDC nor the console button next to the shifter. Yes it works in reverse however. The rest depends on what unit you have. For me the scroll wheel on the steering wheel stopped functioning to switch radio stations while in CarPlay.

Hence why I switched to android. ZERO issues with those units and I'm on my second one. Everything works perfectly in and out of android/CarPlay mode.

Use it every day.

I read on the f30 site about the wireless option from BimmerRetrofit. Any thoughts from this group on that option? Maverik259? To this novice dunce it seems like a pretty good option, albeit pricey.

It's funny, I just read through this thread trying to see if anyone has used the BimmerRetrofit option as well. It was the only one I've looked into so far since I want wireless. From the questions I've asked the only things I know are that they also require an external mic and the steering wheel controls work. TBH the hardware looks similar to the pic that Maverik259 posted (with the Wifi antenna etc.) earlier. Here's a link to their video.. although it conveniently doesn't show any of the pain points discussed in this thread. Maybe we could get a GB going to be guinea pigs for trying this?

Also, I have an Avin unit in my e93 m3 and it was riddled with issues. There's been sound problems, video freezing and the steering wheel controls don't work. I'm not sure if the ones for F models are better or not but wanted to throw out my 2c from my experience.

Not familiar but there are two other wireless options discussed earlier with good results.

Actually... funny thing is that I was playing around with the "Hidden Menu" Long Press 4 today and... initially I wanted to only change the volume balance between music and phone but then got into the camera functions... well long story short ... Camera functions work as factory now with the button next to the gear shifter... Unichip Wired option ... will take a video here this week some time...

To be honest, I don't remember exactly how everything came default, but this is how I have it set now and everything works great. Will still shoot a video sometime this week to show it in action.

To get into this Menu you will need to be in CarPlay and press "4" for about 10 seconds

I thought this was wired Unichip being discussed. My bad. And I thought the pic of what's included with the Unichip option showed a mic. Definitely could be mistaken though.

It's not a dongle it's a USB port that you simply plug in your charging cable too. And ya. I'm Just saying you don't need one. But you can YouTube how to run an external mic. Tons of videos with all these kinds of units. Just attach by rear view and run the wire under headliner to b pillar and under glove box.

When you guys say "long press 4" for hidden menu... is that:

- preset button 4?
- 4 on the on-screen dial pad?
- 4 on the phone's dial pad?

Trying to see if this'll work on my (future) Joyeauto/Bimmerretrofit unit

On the radio buttons. You can try any / all buttons including menu, back, radio etc...
it's a common way to set hidden menus without making it a manœuvre à la BMW..
