G05 Msport Brembo caliper upgrade
I Thought i would document my Caliper upgrade for anyone looking at going down the budget big brake path.
I am by no means an expert but working things out as i go. as well as the usual difficulties that go with BMW's, finding parts for Euro brands in Australia always have an extra tax associated with cost. I have been looking for a while to find a cheap second hand set of calipers and found some GO5 m sport calipers going for cheap on ebay. They arrived last week with one of them a little damaged. the right caliper hardline had been punctured and the top of the pads on this side had been busted off |

So i had the hardline repaired at a local brake and clutch service for $50 Aud. and ordered a set of brake pads online. for the brake pads they wanted $600+ from the BMW dealership plus post so opted to look on the G05 forums for what those boys were using.
Some of them had tried Power Stop Z16-1868 ceramic brake pads for the 750i which could be had for less than a third of the price than oem. So i have ordered a set and waiting on them. |

Today the calipers were stripped down and sanded. two of the dust boots were a little worse for wear so i have ordered a set from Bmw.
For the colour, I opted for Dupli Metalcast anodised blue which is a little lighter than M blue. it requires a metal base coat to go down first and after taping off this was applied, followed by 3 coats of blue |

The disc rotors also arrived today. to say that finding aftermarket F85 395mm discs in Australia was hard is an understatement. but a friend put me on too the Bremtec brand.
These particular ones are Bremtec Evolve F2S Discs for F85 X5M. They are cross drilled single piece disc that are 395mm x 36mm and cost me about half of what oem discs would have (BDR7012LEV) left and (BDR7012REV) right side. |

appreciate the advice with the discs. have you found cracking to be common with any of your drilled rotors ? |

Brembo decals came today. I decided to ditch the M logo as there's already too many M's on the car from factory. and i thought the black is nice and understated compared to the white. Now for a few coats of clear to bring everything to life

Issue is in the heat cycles. Street driven vehicles see repetitive, inconsistent and rapid heating/cooling which can cause stress cracks from the cross-drill holes. You see this more often with straight-line uniform drilling patterns. Yours are drilled in a staggered and wide pattern, so it will be less susceptible to cracking and better for street applications, but still a good idea to check them periodically. I always opt for blanks or slotted discs. Cross-drilled honestly have no benefit on a street driven vehicle other than looks. On a track car they help expel gases resulting in more consistent braking, but a street car will seldom ever see conditions where this is needed. Last edited by ///d; 11-12-2021 at 12:49 AM.. |

Little progress update.
Purchased some extended caliper bolts because to set the caliper over the x5m discs requires about 6.5mm of spacer to centre it correctly. The bolts i used were M12 x 1.5 x 50mm high tensile (10.9) hex bolts. F15 brake lines fit perfectly unlike the x5m caliper upgrade which requires the longer x5m brake lines. so as mine were in perfect condition still i used the originals. The heat shields require minor trimming to fit the caliper but apart from that all went well. |

That is exactly what I want to do to my F15! I have couple questions would like to ask.
1. Everything is directly bolt on expect for the longer caliper bolts? 2. Does the caliper upgrade improves the paddle feel and brake power? 3. The stock G05 rotor won't fit ? Thanks! |

2. The brake feel is about even to how it was, but this might be the pads ive chosen. i think the brake feel improvements would come with more aggressive pads and quality braided brake lines. 3. No, different stud pattern for G05. both the e70 and f85 x5m discs fit depending on what you can get your hands on. I've have also seen the F10 M5 discs fit, but the pads have to be trimmed a little to fit around the hat. I didn't want to trim the pads so went with the x5m option |

Hello Jay, just an excellent write up thank you! My only question is what did you use as spacer and material? Thanks again for another BBK option.

Hi op, I'm actually from Australia (Melbourne) too and was wondering how much you paid for these?
There's currently a listing for 3.5k delivered including all 4 brake rotors and calipers. Cheers! |

They’re gonna be much heavier due to the M rotors being 2 piece with aluminum hats. Imagine being similar in weight to the F15 BBK rotors. There’s a thread with there weights listed around here somewhere.
