Paint touch-up

Does anyone have experience in touching up some small paint chips on their X5? I have black sapphire metallic and have acquired a couple small chips that are driving me crazy. I bought the OEM paint and clear coat touch up kit (link at bottom). It sounds easy if you have a steady hand and the chips are tiny, but I thought I would solicit any comments or advice prior to attempting.

Thanks

Toothpick and Qtip. Dab it here and there let it dry then apply couple of more coats as needed. If you mess up, just wipe it off and re-apply.

If you're talking normal small chips on the hood, you might want to check out Dr. Colorchip products (not affiliated, have just heard really good feedback about using it on multiple small chips over a larger area).

If something more significant, then be ready to accept the fact that you won't get it perfect. Best you can do is to use a toothpick to dab the paint into the chip until the paint comes to the edges. Let it sit and dry for a bit and then reapply as the paint contracts to keep the chip filled with paint.

Unfortunately, blending well is nigh impossible. It'll never survive a close-up examination but you'll be able to make it unnoticeable from more than a couple of feet out.

Also, don't even bother with the clear on a rock chip. You're not trying (or able to) make it perfect. You're really just trying to make the chip invisible from a distance.

I second Dr Colorchip. Very easy to use and clean up.

I have both a BSM F30 and SGM F15 the color matching of metallic paint is hit or miss unfortunately.

Third vote for Dr. Colorchip. In my experiences, the Dr. Colorchip paint colors match the stock paint better than the BMW touch up sticks. And, you can smooth out the blob effect with their stuff.

I use the BMW touch up paint but I use use a hard sponge. Not the absorbent kind, the kind women use to put on makeup. Its easy to flatten and you don't end up with the brush strokes.

I've used Dr Colorchip and it works well. Just don't expect perfections as they disappear when you are far away but get noticeable when you're close to the spot. Check this out as it may help you.

I have patience for the first part of the video - up to the toothpick application.

Once it got to the sanding, you lose me. I have never wet sanded a car and I don't think I am about to try now.
