Buy now?
We are considering selling our 2012 X5 and buying a new X5 35i 2018. We do 20-25k miles a year so leasing is not an option.
I have read that the 2019 will be a redesign so that's why I'm considering buying one now as I've been burned by buying a first year redesigned vehicle in the past. There's a low mileage 2015 CPO ($41k) that we are considering as well, but it's not the right color and it's missing some options that we'd like. Any advice as to whether or not it's a good time to buy one? Any opinions on new vs CPO? Thanks! |

Buying the last year of a model means it will depreciate worst.

Trust me, as I have made this mistake more times than I will admit...DO NOT settle on colour or options that are most important to you!! You will have buyer's remorse the same day, and when you see the colour you wanted on the road or parked somewhere, you will not forgive yourself.
With my '17 X5 40e, I knew I had to have the LED headlights and LED front blinkers. I knew I did not want the Xenon headlights that come with (ugh!!!) regular old-fashioned bulb blinkers. The dealer had the exact Mineral White 40e I wanted with even more options than I planned on...but it had Xenon & bulb front blinkers. I told myself it was no big deal. I thought about the LED headlights every day!!!! My 2017 35d...LED headlights & blinkers, and even more options and packages than the 40e had. I think my current 35d, is the most loaded BMW I have ever had. Love!! Good luck!!! |

which brings up another point. you buy a last year model, and it will look "old" pretty quick when the next model comes out. then you own that car the whole time looking "old". versus buying a model early in its life cycle, and it will still look like the new models sold, and retain value better, and people will think its new.

Nah, my car is already at the dealer. I just need to wait out the last month of my existing lease before picking up my new one. It’s all a matter of extra cost. This time, I ticked both M-sport and 50i versus my last no line 35i. I’ve always had DHP as well. Sure, there were another $10,000 more in options, but this was already a big upgrade.

Yeah, that’s not happening on a lease. I’ll get it (or lasers) in three years with my next one. To each his own. This is my weekend driver. Kiddy carrier during the week. Lol

My wifes new 18 volvo xc60 has awesome led headlights, but I don't feel I miss them. The stock hids seem decent to me. I would wait and buy the new model. You only live once.

To me buying a vehicle is an expensive purchase. I won't settle for something I don't like nor compromise. I would factory order the last model year and get what I want. Then get several years into a new model and let BMW work out the bugs. If I like the new model then do the same toward the end of its lifecycle to get an lci model.
