50i, don't have a sports car.
Had an E70 35i and it was ok...
My wife's 35i with Dinan is an improvement, but just can't hold a candle to the 50i
Wherever I am going I just have more fun getting there!!

I think it all depends on what others cars you have and what purpose your X5 serves. If the X5 was my only car i would of probably bought an x5m

35i, don't like the sound of diesel, I also care more about being able to jump from 70mph than from a stand still. From my test drive it felt like the 35i would beat the 35d even from a 10 mph rolling start.

50i would be nice but I had a budget.

Although the HP comes shorter on diesel, but the difference in fuel consumption wins it for me...man the 50i just devours fuel and is almost double the diesel !!!
BTW, we should be comparing the Premium gasoline price vs Diesel and not the regular...in some States or Provinces, Diesel is slightly higher, but in the majority of them Premium is much higher.
We also have factor in the number of visits to the gas station...with diesel the number of visits are significantly lower (a Tank runs for about 800-900km (500-550 miles) whereas 50i only gives you about 500-550km (310-340 miles)...give or take.
Yep, agreed. When comparing fuel prices, Diesel should be compared to Premium, as Regular would never be used in either 50i or 35i.

Here in CA, diesel has been cheaper than premium since February. For the last 2 months Diesel has been slightly cheaper than Costco regular. Tell me again, if you care about MPGs why not diesel?

50i, the fun choice!

Believe it or not, it does gets slightly better fuel mileage than our E53 X5 3.0i, inline 6-cylinder...

For 3k worth of tunes I can get close enough to a stock 50i
Reliability
My same rationale. ITs fast enough the 35i. If you want a fast sporty truck X6M bc its handling matches its straight ahead speed. To me the only diff between the 5.0 and 35 is speed, handling everything else the same. Cannot justify 11k diff for straight line only performance. Same look same handling etc

Chose the 35i because I was able to get much more options (m pack, drive assist, etc.) and for a little less than the 50i. Also, mpg was also a big factor given I had a diesel before.

One can dream.
BTW very glad the 35D is not affected by the recent diesel fiasco. I think BMW diesels are about to sell a lot more.

I've driven a lot of diesel car in the past 10 years...(lived in Europe)...and I must say, the 35d is extremely quite and has come a long way...the sound IMO is absolutely not an issue despite many comments here...
I've owned both a gasoline F30 and a F25. Both of them weren't the quietest of all either.

Mind you I own an X5 diesel since 2014...
I'm buying another one, so want to hear everyone's perspective before I decide if I stay with diesel or move to 50i or M
Plus this is turning into a very informative and useful thread for everyone I think...
The ONLY set back for me on 50i and M is the fuel consumption on those two which I can't get my head around it...

35i M-Sport with MPPK

Why?

Price
Reliability
Enough performance for my needs

At first I was a bit unsure that the same inline 6 powering a 3 series sedan would be adequate for such a heavy SUV.

After reading up on it at test driving the 35i I was convinced.

Like another person said... You can't go wrong with any of the 3 and it just comes down to personal needs/preference.

Let's face it, the 35i or 35d are the better choices. They are more reliable, better gas mileage, and less expensive. All of the options available on the 50i are available on the 35i and 35d (I think I am right about that). Adding the MPPK makes the 35i even better. Everyone who has voted for a 35i or 35d are right. Plus, why spend so much on a depreciating asset? (and that question has caused me the greatest pause). We would be a fool to spend so much on a 50i. So here is my rationalization: I like the sound of a V8, I like its power, I can't take the money with me when I die, and, above all, if I got a 35i or 35d I would always say, gee, for just a "little" more I could be driving a 50i. I just don't want to live with regret. So, my vote is for a 50i.
