it still said X5M though... if they can just remove the X5 or just the M, I'd go for it.

I love the vent but at the same time don't want to pose like a X5M when it's not.

honestly, you can get an overlay vinyl or remove the current one and put whatever you want. i would just black out the x5 portion

good idea, may be i'll just get the gloss black one from Ben and plasticdip the word, so that I can always remove it later for resale or something.

On a side note, I messaged Ben a few days earlier and he mentioned one of his vendor is making a carbon one as well and should be ready in a month or two.

I shake my head in disbelief whenever I see a "carbon fiber" item that, when added to the
car, has no performance benefit and actually adds weight

When I raced a 928, we couldn't get any more weight out, and were still above the minimum,
so instead of a fiberglass seat, I spent twice as much on a carbon fiber seat in order to save 8lbs

Now that I race Mazdas we can easily get below minimum weight, and actually have to ballast
up, so there is no reason for carbon fiber expensive parts

When it came time for a new helmet though, I bought the carbon fiber one, because it actually is
lighter on the shoulders, and may have a performance benefit that outweighs its higher cost, and
yes, of course it looks cool

.. but really, carbon fiber license plate frames, when "no-frame" weighs less, and is more than
perfectly adequate = ridiculousness in its most basic sense

To me, these side vents are equivalent to license plate frames

You may flame me all you like, but I cringe at the misuse of the concept of carbon fiber
in a very similar way as I cringe at non-M cars with M badges

@wearenh

I see your point of view, but these type of accessories are merely cosmetic... half a pound or less would not make a difference in a car, particularly a SUV not intended for hardcore track purposes

What a horrible example. It's the same reason the oem aero performance line is made in carbon fiber instead of matte plastic on the x5...as well as the oem trim in carbon finish. These are merely cosmetic features and finishes since carbon does look good. These are not racecars. ...

sorry if I was not more clear in my comments...

I totally understand the cosmetic nature of the aero parts but they at least have
another purpose, so they don't make me cringe

Similarly, carbon fiber mirror covers, carbon fiber shifters, and carbon fiber interior
trim do not make me cringe, because they are replacing parts that need to be there
anyway, so they are just a finish choice

Adding a totally unnecessary part for purely cosmetic reasons doesn't make me
cringe either; I totally get it

The only thing I personally object to is when you add a totally unnecessary part is
added in carbon fiber ... to me (and I admit I have some serious quirks) I see the
person saying to himself "I want to add this license plate frame...but wait, I'd better
use carbon fiber so it weighs less" ... when the absence of the unnecessary part
would obviously weigh even less .... I know, I am a nutty ...

Its all good.

You see carbon fiber as what it was meant for originally. Strong lightweight material.

Most see carbon fiber as a aesthetically pleasing design/pattern.

haha, I'm sure most of us here who add carbon fiber or carbon fiber looking parts are for the look and feel but not for the light weight :-)

Stealth fighter pilots laugh at race cars full of carbon fiber as they hit supersonic speeds in millions of dollars worth of carbon fiber.

I wonder what they think of an X5with CF.

hmmm I'm not so sure about this mod... I don't even like it on the X5M and if I had the X5M I would remove this piece if possible. I do like the X6 vent cover much better though..

I think these would look better and more subtle.. but just my opinion though Ben, already confirmed to me that these don't fit the X5.
