Tested stock 50i with vbox

58F weather helped offset the 2000' of elevation. Bone stock except for X5M airfilters.

Times matched Motortrend and C&D Vbox times.

Exhaust is way too quiet.

@onfireX5 , you need catless downpipe more than an exhaust system.
It gives you the most gain.

why would elevation affect a turbo charged engine?

It does not hurt it as much as an NA engine but you do lose available atmospheric pressure. In an extreme example I've gained 5mph in trap speed going from a 4000ftDA track to a sea level track in one week back to back passes.

Look at Bandimere NHRA dragway. ProStock drops around 10mph and the blown cars are down also. Just not as much.

Wish I could go careless. VA is clamping down.

Jeesus that is fast! Its not that the 35i with MPPK/tune isn't quick its just that the 50i is just a beast no matter how you look at it. Its way more power than any SUV really needs lol

The 50 is a brute, but my wife's 35 with MPPK and Dinan is a killer ride. 450 lbs less weight is a huge difference in overall balance.

@onfireX5 posted it in this thread.

But I agree, onfireX5 should post these stats on one thread for easy reference.

Above post is all I have on the stock 50.

Here is the 35 with MPPK and Dinan. Both very good mods for power.

Corvette TT 0-60 in 3.1 seconds. 0-100 in 6.7 seconds. At the track 3 weeks ago went it 10.8 at 130mph in the 1/4. Not the fastest car I own , but a fun ride.

I went to Elite Motorsports on Long Island NY and we brainstormed for a little bit about doing a custom exhaust, ended up having exhaust cutouts in replacement for the resonators..and we threw on the BMS stage 1... ive done iphone dynolicious testing with the full setup and gotten a 4 second flat 0-60 claims are that number is up to .25 seconds delayed so can possible be quicker .. Ive been traveling a lot and just ordered a F80, so i really have no time to test the 1/4 or dyno.. but my god it's fast, was leaving a meet with f10 m5 and we both went to around 100 and my car was right up his butt... really want to see its 1/4 mile! and it sounds insane, with the push of a button the exhaust flaps open up and you get a load of turbo whistle, burbles and an insane WOT noise... transformed the car, I was on stock 19's and i was chirping tires so I threw on forgestars 20's with 315's in the rear and its a beast

So do you think the X5M air filters in the 50i make a significant difference?

Without specific testing I don't know. When I get a chance I am going to pressure drop test them to see if the larger M is still a restriction. If they are I am sending a set to K&N to install their media into the oem cage. My guess is that is not needed.

For a $60 drop in oem filter with 14% more airflow and designed by BMW for the M, it's a no brainier for me.
