Screwed up on of my alloys

Good evening people

I have managed to screw up one of my alloys with a serious amount or kerb rash.

Does anyone know if you can have the wheel 469m refurbished?

If so where can you get it done well in the UK and will it look the same as the others.

thanks in advance

Since you don't have any replies yet specific for the UK, I thought I would recommend other ways to find a company.

Depending how deep the rash is, it should be repairable. Call local auto parts stores, tire dealer, or call a hot rod (here is the US, speed shop) shop and ask them for recommendations. You will find someone this way. Call the recommended shop and ask how they repair - even if you're not familiar with the process, you'll know BS after speaking with a couple of shops.

I repaired one of my forged AL wheels by filing the rash smooth, then sanded it with finer and finer sandpaper, then polished it. You couldn't tell there was a problem but it was a polished aluminum race wheel to start with. Most likely, you'll have to get yours repainted then clear coated.

Thanks for this. I have had alloys repaired in the past and have been happy with them.

My only concern is that these seem to have a texture to them, like a grain that I feel may not be able to be repaired

Oh man. I feel for you. I'm sure it can be repaired. The big question is can they match it. A good shop should be able to do it. I guess you've done some local searching for a used rim. An option I was looking at was to paint them gloss black if that's the type of thing you are into. I know one of the forum members bought a set of used rims and 2 of them were severally damaged and couldn't be used. He's intent was to make them into his Winter setup. Not sure what he ended up doing with it. His forum name was SlammedR8.

Not sure where you are located but forum member Alan just did his exact wheels at his local shop in Brooklyn, NY I believe and excellent results. mine has curb rash too but its pretty minor, so I am being lazy about it.

Do you have BMW original tyres on your wheels? On both my summer and winter wheels the tyre is wider than the rim, so I was never concerned with hitting a curb as I hit with the tyre and it protects the rim. I hit curbs a couple of times without any damage. Thanks for sharing this info, I am trying to find out if I have any reason to worry.

Mine was damaged similar to yours and it was repaired. The brushed metal finish looks about a 98% match to the original and you can't even tell its been repaired unless you had two wheels right next to each other. Cost me $125 per wheel.

I've had one of my 469M's repaired as well. Ended up having to swerve to avoid a sideswipe and nicked a curb. 100% repaired to OE in my opinion, no evidence of damage. Local shop here in Vancouver did the work, Nu-Brite.

Thanks for all the replies. You have put my mind at ease knowing that they can possibly be repaired.

I also like the idea of changing them into a Black Winter setup so that maybe an idea.

I have arranged to drop it into a local tyre shop to see what they say and will let you know

Every major city has a mobile wheel repair guy. Just look them up and they'll come repair your wheels. Unless your wheels are completely bent, it is fixable.

If u don't wanna spend the $$$ right now to fix it, get some heavy/ light grade sand paper and sand it for now.. just to get the surface smooth.. it will look much better than it is now.

Here's a uk response for ya! Use Lepsons. They can 100% replicate BMW finish! I've done worse kerb scrapes than yours which they have repaired.

Anyone use these? Wife nicked a curb and want to prevent further damage. Thankfully it's one so will need to get it fixed.
