Sat in the new X3 (had already two F15, quite loaded, current 2017 especially) and can say it is surprisingly spacious inside and nicely put together. New tech is pretty amazing. Pros (for me of course): more modern dash, softer basic leather, sunroof seems even bigger, option to have quieter windows (noise insulation), new digital dials and bigger HUD. Against: no split tailgate, less undertrunk space, no comfort seat option, no B&O, no nappa leather dash (at least for now, guessing it will come for X3M). Rear exhaust pipes (round) look way bigger and nicer in real life.

I think it's time I check in after a couple of months of owning my X5. I absolutely love it. I came from a 335i with 430 rwhp so so there are times that I miss the power that the stock N55 doesn't provide. Part of me wishes that I would have gotten the N63 but no regrets other than lack of power. I will get it tuned once I am out of warranty to open her up a bit.
The technology in this car is really good and getting into my wife's 2015 Lexus seems like a huge step backwards when dealing with their infotainment system. The display on the X5 really is a step above many others. |

Overall really like my 2016 X5 S Drive with 14,000 miles. The steering column was replaced under warranty and for some reason just doesn’t feel the same and the steering wheel dips down a little on the left.
I’ll do an alignment when I replace the tires with 20 inch non run flats. Having said that I may sell it when the warranty is up in a few years. It’s already depreciated around 22K in 22 months. |

I have the opportunity to pick up a Cayenne GTS for a very attractive number. For those who cross-shopped any comparison or thoughts? My main issue is the button layout and not having an iDrive/MMI style interface but outside of these features or lack thereof any reason not to go with a Cayenne GTS?

Guess that means you would not buy your X5 again. One thing about Porsche is there technology stinks. As much as I like their cars, can not get over their tech if it is going to be a daily driver.

I would not buy another F15 unless there were substantial discounts but I was prepared to purchase a G05 the other day but when I went in to submit my build I was hit with a wait period that would put my specific build out to April 2019 (tentatively) based on the options and configuration. Ideally I would like to have the family hauler in the garage significantly sooner than that especially for a planned road trip. I then went into talks on a Q8 Prestige "first year" with my friend at Audi but if I do not buy an in-stock unit (which there aren't any "first year" available in our area means my vehicle would not go into production until March. Then there arent any X5M available for another year so long story short I had to speak with other friends who own dealerships and I stumbled across a Cayenne GTS, a full size heavily optioned RRSC and a fully loaded Discovery Lux. Out of the three the Cayenne is the most intriguing only because I never owned one before and is optioned well and they're willing to discount substantially if I buy it before the end of the month.
As far as their tech goes, I agree. Considering the sticker price and being within the VAG family they have all the access they need or want for tech and as I stated earlier their inability to integrate a standard iDrive or MMI style system is peculiar or just stubborn. The Infotainment display in the cluster over a HUD is cute but not as functional or convenient since you have to glance down as opposed to it being projected onto the windshield.

Honestly, I would focus more on the driving experience than the electronics. I say this because no matter what level of technology the car you buy is equipped with, it will eventually be outdated. That said, some manufacturers are never quite able to nail down the driving experience, and try to distract from the issue by highlighting options. I actually think that VAG offers great technology and a fun driving experience; however, after 15 years of driving various VW/Audi models, found myself bored with the brand.
And, yes, I would most-certainly buy my X5 again; best all-round SUV I ever owned. Last edited by The Libertine; 12-24-2018 at 01:34 PM.. Reason: Clarity |

I too had a 530, when my second child was born I bought a VW Touareg, great car but it's not a BMW. However I've more recently had another baby and bought a seven seater X5. Great car and loving being back in a BMW. Works well for a family of 5, so I highly recommend. |

I always like tech and driving experience. BMW has come a long way in the last 5 years in the tech dept and I think has some of the best tech in the industry, that goes with their driving experience. I like both to enjoy my cars, especially with as much driving as our family does.
Porsche drives well, but there tech is so non current that it makes it a no go for me, unless I was buying it for a true sports car that would not be driven as often. |

Aesthetically speaking, the only comparable vehicles I like are the G550 and Macon S/GTS. I don’t think the G would feel as sporty as the X5, and I don’t think the Macan would have as much room as the X5.

I would buy an X5 again; but might consider the 50i or F85 since I’ve already owned the F15 and F16 with 35i. I love this SAV!
