Forum Reader vs. Service Advisor
I brought my car in for service this morning and had the following conversation with the Service Advisor when discussing the truck's suspension:
SA- Well what mode are you driving the car in? FR- Comfort. But why would it matter? SA- When changing the modes to comfort, sport, etc. the suspension changes FR- But i DONT have the adaptive suspension option SA- oh that doesnt matter. when you change the modes, it still changes the suspension. FR- really? i was under the impression the suspension only changes if you have adaptive suspension or dynamic handling package? (i have neither) SA- No, that is incorrect. if you switch to sport mode, it tightens up the suspension. |

I think the manual fails to go into detail in regards to the optional adaptive m suspension and how it works the purpose of this option and so forth. You don't feel a thing when you switch from eco to comfort to sport in a X5 without a suspension pkg. You do feel the tightening on the chassis when you engage into sport from either comfort / eco with the adaptive m or dhp equipped X5. Also in idrive menu where you set the suspension ( chassis ) or the transmission ( drivetrain ) separately indicates that as well.

BMW please make adaptive suspension standard across the range so this poor SA's life is easier
Constantly having these types of conversations with both SA and sales people. I actually expect it now. |

This just illustrates once again that it's better to have your own head and think for yourself, rather than blindly believe everything that SA or even BMW USA itself is telling or recommending. There's simply too much BS out there and BMW often has to recommend things (including maintenance etc) that are not the best for the car, but comply with lots of Green rules and regulations
Now you can throw tomatoes on me |
