I have a 7 digit order number which I think might be the production number because when I call BMW, they are to able to see the order but I cannot use that order number on the BMW website to track the order.

When you ordered doesn't matter. What matters is what allocation your dealer gave you, if they had one. If you haven't gotten a production (order) number yet, ask your CA for it. If they don't have it, you're not just waiting for production, you're waiting for an allocation to even submit the order.
Once you have that, you should also be given an estimated production week, which should hold true unless there are delays (due to parts shortages, for example). |

No, you should be able to add it with the production number. vin doesn't get assigned until it enters production. If you just got the number late last week, I would guess it should recognize it Monday or Tuesday.

I got the number the same day the order was placed. The ca told me that's the order no. The customer service rep from bmw told me that's the production no. But I cannot add the vehicle online using that number. It's a 7 digit no.. I will call BMW and find out why the website is not accepting that no..

^^^^ To verify whether your contract has been accepted by BMW NA from your dealer (i.e. that your dealer has an allocation, for Toronto is was 10 per dealer for Dec 2013) ask to see the Vehicle Inquiry Report (VIR). My nine digit ( with leading 00, hence 7 digit) production number was assigned about 2 weeks after contract was signed. Your production # entered into the VIR will show all options and details except VIN #, which is assigned about 5-10 days before production. For Canada, there was no online tool for order tracking. Once a production # is received, you can call BMW Canada for updates; however, even speaking to different customer service associates on the same day they gave incorrect status reports.

Another Production Status Question
I ordered an X5 35d (on 12/21) and have a production number. I noticed on the tracking web site, it now shows that it has moved from "Order Documented" to "Production Begins" status. If I call the 800 number it says "Scheduled for Production with no firm date yet". My CA says it is "in production" but is reluctant to give me an anticipated completion date.
Does anyone have any general guideline for how long it takes to roll off the line once the web site says it is in "Production Begins" status? and in light of what the 800 number says, do you think it is really in production, or am I still in the "waiting for a production date" like the 800 number says. Thanks in advance, |
