DIY: BMS Stage 1 for N55 F15/F16 X5/X6 sDrive35i/xDrive35i

I have received a few questions on how easy is the installation and removal on the BMS Stage 1 for the F15 N55. So, here is the DIY.

There are 4 pairs of connectors and 4 wires coming out of the 25-pin D-Sub connector.

- D-Sub connector: Connected to the module
- 4 wires (Black/Brown/Red/Green): Not used (For other application)
- Purple / Black wire connector: Not used (For other application)
- Blue wire connector: Not used (For other application)
- Brown / Black wire connector: For MAP sensor
- Rainbow wire connector: For TMAP sensor

Now, let's the work begin.

Step 1:
Remove the airbox, using flat screwdriver to loosen up the hose clamp and Torx T25 for the 6 screws on the airbox. You need to remove the airbox for easy access to the MAP sensor.

Step 2:
Unplug from the MAP sensor and connect it to the Brown/Black wiring plug pairs from the JB wiring.
** The new BMW plugs are not as easy to take off, you may want to use a flat screwdriver to flip the tab.

Step 3:
Unplug from TMAP sensor and connect it to the Rainbow wiring plug pairs from the JB Wiring.
** The new BMW plugs are not as easy to take off, you may want to use a flat screwdriver to flip the tab.

Step 4:
Replace and secure the airbox to its original place.

Last step:
Reroute the cable to your liking. Do secure the module so it is not dangling in the engine bay by the wire.

That's all, enjoy the additional power.
Oh, remember, this module is designed for OFF-ROAD use only ** Regular Legal Disclaimer for any aftermarket mods **

Technically, you don't need to remove them for every service as it is not detectable. But, if you have a very anal SA or bringing the car for warranty claim, I suggest you to remove it.

I believe for the 50i, you need to use 2x JB+.

r33, the burger website has a prominent disclaimer that the jb4 is not for the X5. Any thoughts on that? Thanks!

Easy answer. Why am I using it then?

To clarify their information, JB4 Stage 2 will not work on the X5. Only JB4 Stage 1 for the N55 works on the X5.

I have been using it for 3 months.

That's what I thought. It clearly works, as you've proven, so I was wondering why they went to the trouble of putting up the DME compatibility thing.

Which one did you order then? Looks like there's 8 options, none of which say F15. Did you go with the F10 harness type B? Thanks!

With DME compatibility, you can have access through the car system to change the mapping and better power output since the module will have better access to the DME.

You will need the F10 harness type B. The F30 one just have longer cable.

N55 is the 35 series engine, such as;
late 135, 235, 335, 435, 535, 640, X1 35i, X3 35i, X5 35i.

About horses, I can't fit any horse in the X5.
But, yea, based on the advertisement, it should add about 50hp and 60tq to the wheels.

Djarvik,

Yes, they do.

It is the JBD, advertised at 60+ hp and 100+ tq gain.

Pony

I sure can feel the result. I have been driving in comfort mode without complaining. But, when you put it into a Sport mode,
You will forget that you are actually driving a truck.

This is the tricky one.
BMS told me that you will need to use 2x JB+, 1 for left MAF and 1 for right MAF.
Maybe you can give me some more info on your engine type, it should says on the window sticker.
It is either the regular N63 or the N63TU.

I looked on the window sticker and didn't see anything that says N63 nor N63TU.

That way, the tune for it is N63tu Stage 1.
BMS asking for $599.00 + shipping.

I think that it might be helpful to explain what "N55 JB4 State 1" means. I have no idea what those letters and numbers mean. Are they an option that is available from the factory that you are retro-fitting? if so, what option?

I'm wondering the same thing...and this will no doubt void the factory warranty too. Thanks but I think I'll pass.
