"external dialogue" when using Waze causes buffering in all audio
Just got my 2018 X5 and when I start Waze, my heads up display keeps flashing "external dialogue" which then causes the audio (Sirius, carplay, etc) to become buffered and choppy.
Tried googling and searching but does anyone know the fix? |

I have been struggling with this as well. I just checked Waze on my phone and I am already set to use phone speaker.
Really looking forward to Waze in CarPlay this fall. |

So I have a few more findings, but to recap from earlier:
1) When I get into the car and turn Waze on, it becomes unresponsive and the audio becomes choppy and I see "External dialogue" on heads up. 2) When I shut down the Waze app, I can start Spotify app and then because it's linked to Waze, I can start Waze INSIDE the Spotify app, which then allows me to use Waze without the external dialogue choppiness. SO: I unlinked my Spotify and Waze accounts, but haven't tested this theory out. I'm hopeful byremoving this link, it will let me use Waze without issue. Anyone try this? I guess it's moot once iOS 12 is released, but until the Fall, it's been a huge headache for me being a first time X5/BMW lessee. |

What do you have in Waze Settings -> Sound and voice -> Sound output? Make sure it's not set to Bluetooth phone call. Mine is default device and if I have my input set to my phone Waze comes in seamlessly over audio or a slight pause (configurable within Waze) rather than the interruption.
