It would be more useful if you listed where you got that picture from, what specific car it is, and what company sold those replicas. There are many terrible companies out there and some very good reputable companies. I did plenty of research before buying mine due to such accidents, which is why I went with a reputable seller with 700-800+ 5 star reviews (over years of experience) from all kinds of vehicle owners old and new. I also remember someone telling me they bought previous replicas from the same seller and those lasted a long time without issues.

This kind of thread scares people. Please take my advice and do a little more research properly if you're going to post something like this. Give good information if you give warnings to people - that is what is useful. That way people know what to stay away from if there are such dangers. That picture looks like something serious could have happened. Thank you.

Wow! I guess we got lucky as we never had any issues with our 20" 4.6is replica rims since we got them 5-6 years ago.

Hello,

i just want to say that i got information from other bmw forum that this exact model OEM rims 433M is cast, not forged.

Also one guy added that he had cast wheels on his AMG and that rim also get broken.

Bottom line: I will never buy cast wheels..also i will never buy replica wheels, because car has over 4000 parts, but sits on 4 rims.

I'd like to know more details to what exactly happened here? Pothole?

Also very skeptical this would be an actually OEM 433M wheel. BMW's cast wheels are of decent quality.

Yeah, context, purchased from who, when where and how did this occur would be good.

While the details provided by the OP are few, he did at least say they were replicas, not BMW wheels.

Definitely scary. Although I agree, more details are needed. There ARE several companies out there that produce high-quality replicas. I run RS4 replicas, made by Hartmann, and they have been great. The wheels have over 80k on them, and I've had zero issues...which means a lot considering the suspension setup I run and having the rims wrapped in 35 profile tires. I am still a firm believer of "you get what you pay for." If you're buying wheels that in OEM branding would cost $5,000, yet you can buy them for $1,000...there's probably a potential risk there. Just my .02.

Although I can see the rationale behind replicas, my general rule of thumb is to stay away from them. Apart from questionable quality, it always reminds me of some woman in a poor area wearing a Vuitton bag... Esse quam videri.

For the record, I hit a pothole in my 545 with 128 BBS OEM rims at 50mph(on a country road on the other side of a hill and it exploded my rim. Context is needed
