You get almost the full feature. The only thing you don't get is the reminder to put your hands on the steering wheel if you have removed them. The module makes it look like you always have your hands on the wheel.

It is no where near an autopilot. The road must be wide enough, clearly marked, no major curves, and it must see the car in front of you. It takes the existing Adaptive Cruise Control and makes it a little better by steering in certain traffic conditions, but you must always be attentive.

Ok. Sold! Haha just need to figure this coding thing out. Keep getting overwhelmed when I start reading everything on how to code. I wish the app could do this. I at least understand the expert mode. Haha

Which ECU’s did you VO code? BDCBODY, KAFAS and KOMBI as stated earlier in thread? Any FDL coding needed?

Well, its not working yet. I added 5AR to the FA (verified that it took), and VO coded BDC_BODY, KAFAS2, and KOMBI.

Quidzel says to VO code the whole list of ECU's at once, but my travels in the coding thread say coding the DME ECU's is a no-no unless you like bricks.

I will try also VO coding the ICM ECU tonight, as it is mentioned in the cheat sheet.

Oh, and don't close your trunk lid after you disconnect the battery, it is a bit of a chore to get to the manual release...

Here are the FDL codes. You probably don't need to VO code if you set all of these:

These look like all something I can do in the app?! So I assume these aren't any different than the cheat sheet. If that's the case the cheat sheet even says all the other coding that's needed. Sorry rusty on different between VO and FDL.

VO coding ICM did the trick! Also FDL coded to work on all roads and max speed 63mph.

Was able to do a limited test drive and get it to steer, but will be able to test more in depth tomorrow.

ICM coding throws a bunch of chassis malfunction codes, so use the transmitter section of esys to clear them.

I have a CEL now, we’ll see if it goes away on its own.

If you got BimmerLink it should be able to clear it too. So you did in face need to VO code ICM. Was hoping I could do this all in the app lol. Oh well. Guess I have something to learn this weekend.

I used Esys. I may have to get the APP as well. I think you could skip VO coding and just FDL/APP code all the individual items (which includes some in the ICM ECU) that dwissing posted. You will still have to get 5AR added to your FA and loaded into the car. Not sure if the APP can do that?

I used TJA on my morning commute. VERY COOL!

Ya I'll have to do the 5AR and then I'll try just the fdl with the app. They're all in there.

You shouldn't have to add 5AR and VO code if you do the FDL coding. One or the other will work.

When you VO code an ECM module, the system looks at your list of installed options (such as 5AR) and sets all of the values within that ECM based on what it believes the vehicle was ordered with. So if you add 5AR and the VO code the modules, it will set the values needed to enable TJA

Alternatively, you can just set the values yourself by FDL coding. It produces the same result.

For example, adding 5AR and then VO coding the KOMBI module will make the following values "aktiv":
KOMBI 3004 DISP_CC_DRASY_ALIVE
KOMBI 3004 DISP_CC_DRASY_CRC
KOMBI 3004 DISP_CC_DRASY_TIMEOUT
KOMBI 3004 DISP_DRASY_ALIVE
KOMBI 3004 DISP_DRASY_APPL
KOMBI 3004 DISP_DRASY_CRC
KOMBI 3004 DISP_DRASY_TIMEOUT
KOMBI KL_PREDRIVE_F17_STA
KOMBI STA_ENABLE

Or you can use the FDL editor and change the values yourself. You don't need to do both.

Sweet then I will install it tomorrow and hook up my app and see how we do! Although this is a bit confusing as even on the cheat sheet on the coding thread it mentions all three: 5AR, VO, and FDL

More impressions:

- It drove about 3/4 of the way home yesterday on the freeway (I25). Did a great job up to speeds of about 45 mph. Above that it gets a little squirrely making corrections that are a bit overzealous.

- It definitely needs wider lanes or it will shut off. I also have about a 10 min drive down a 4 lane city street, but the lanes are narrow and it works about half the time. (not really necessary to use TJA, but just testing).

- Overall it was well worth the investment. Great job Quidzel!

How do you activate TJA? I thought you had to get a new steering wheel because it has a dedicated button to activate it?

The new steering wheel is for the hand sensor. There is no button. It's activated with ACC.

There is an actual TJA button as well if you look up pictures for it so perhaps one could get a new button group if desired. So is there no way to turn off TJA when ACC is active then?

There is a dedicated button for TJA, left side of the steering gear, bottom right corner.

Well from what those using the quid chip are saying they're not buying a new steering wheel. Sooooooooo take that how you will. Cuz that's what I'm referring too. Now on the bottom side of the steering wheel this is a touch module which is how it senses that you're touching the wheel itself. But hey all I've done is install the chip. Haven't coded yet to prove how it works.

So basically one can use just bimmercode in expert mode to enable TJA (plus chip)?

EDIT: per quidzel, "– As of 5/29/2018, Bimmercode doesn’t support the modules needed to enable this feature".

Ugh, my coding laptop is apparently too old for VMware...
