DEF mess. Normal? Explosion? Sloppy Work?

My 2017 xDrive 35d had it's first Service today, and the paperwork says DEF added since it was quite low.

When I got home and pulled into the garage, I noticed white stuff running down a headlight, on the front bumper, coming out the kidney grilles, on the hood and even some splattered on the windshield?

Is this from someone adding DEF sloppily, or has something exploded? Thanks!

This is just sloppy work by dealer. I had a 335d and if you spill, it just looks like fluid at first. When it dries you can see all the places there was fluid as the white residue remains. They probably didn't realize they spilled everywhere as it wasn't dry at the time they closed the hood. You get the lovely mess afterwards.

I always pour warm water after filling and closing the DEF caps, its the definitive way of keeping the filling area it crust free.

This^^^^

I’ve asked for the cap that leaks to be replaced, under warranty. Hasn’t happened, yet. In the meantime I just fill up a cup with warm water and it just melts away, too.

Thanks for all the replies. The dealer got back to me, and said since I did not want my car washed (it was just fully washed and detailed the day before service)...this is why it was dirty and crusty. They also said they use warm water and try and remove as much DEF before it crusts up. I appreciated them getting back to me, and letting me know. It was nice to get a Free oil service and DEF fill up yesterday. Prepaid Maintenance is a great feature!
