Update... if you see my thread from today, Rich (v12 on these boards) was able to very nicely and cleanly install the V1 for me without cutting into any wiring.

Looks like there's no overhead switched circuit. Tried this weekend.
I'll tackle this next weekend when I run the wires necessary to support the proper operation of my euro tail lights. Out of curiosity, what did v12 use to power the V1?

I will let v12 post details on his DIY as I gave him permission to use the pics he took of my car and I not too technical. Basically he removed the plastic cover where the rear view mirror attaches to the windshield and used a cable which taps into power connectors in that housing. I like my detector clipped to my driver side visor and so it worked perfectly with the wire tucked up into the seam of the overhead plastic compartment where the sunglasses storage is. Look forward to his DIY. Again very clean install, highly recommend, very reasonable, and he came to me. Just another enthusiast like us. |

Thanks gentlemen.
CeeTee, is the install to a hot wire that is switched and comes on when the key is turned? The pics posted up in a link by v12 won't open. Darn. Could some others be sent? BlueLodge, the pics you posted show wiring to a fuse panel under the dash. this seems similar to what I did with my C4$. Tied into the fuse for the heated seats. Do I have this right? This would be a hot switched connection I believe. Last edited by judgejon; 02-12-2018 at 02:35 AM.. Reason: clarity |

I've used this in all my cars.
http://invisicord.com/ It goes right into where the mirror gets it's power, no need to take apart anything except the covers for the Mirror stem. It can take as little as 5 minutes. Instructions http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/sho...d.php?t=790945 |

Friends,
This is a follow up to my earlier post about hard wiring a V1 into a new 2018 X5. Many thanks to James for his personal help, and to others who added good comments as well. I took the X5 to CPS Mobile Electronics in Cotati, CA. Cody and Joel were great help. Cody did the hook up today and it seems to work fine. The interior of the car is pristine. He found an unused fuse port and wired in a Rostra unit to power the accessory after the car is turned on. This will prevent any power surge going to the V1 and maybe causing damage. There were a few spare fuse locations available, as my wife's car does not have cooled front seats or heated rear seats. So it's all worked out, and she said the V1 functioned as usual on our trip back up the coast from Cotati. Took a few hours and some miles to get down there and back, but it was well worth it to us. CPS Mobile Electronics also did some work on my wife's previous Lexus that we were also pleased with. I would recommend these folks without any hesitation. Thanks again to all. jl

I use a blendmount for my V1, wired to SAVVY (coded vehicle to turn off OBDII port alarm), a concealed display on the steering wheel stem, a BT LE module, and the V1Driver app on my iPhone X. The blendmount is great. I don’t like suction cups.
