X5 35D 19 inch wheels to 20

I'd like to get 20 inch staggered M wheels for my X5 and keep the 19's for my winter tires. Will that be OK? Will the 20's work regardless of chassis? Thx.

Yes, 20" staggered will work just fine.

You might want to consider installing fender flares.

Not sure if that's humour or serious. Do the X5's that came with 20 inches from the factory have fender flares?

Yea i just had them installed on mine to go up to 20"s, it's about $650 for the parts. BMW "requires" them for staggered as the wheels stick out past body w.o.

I’ve seen x5’s with 275’s all around as opposed to the staggered 315/275 setup. What’s best for a 35d?

I am going from 467m (19"s) to 469m (20"s) so yes.

Is your 35d a M-Sport?

No it's not. Are you going staggered or 275 all around?

I am going staggered. 275 front and 315 rear.

I am in New Hampshire... not too far from you.

My xline came with 19s and no flares. Once I upgraded to staggered bigger wheels I installed the flares. Makes the x5 look so much better if you ask me

fromkrypton, about the fender flares you mentioned. Are you saying that you can fit flares onto a 35d with stock 19” rims? Or has anyone else done this because from what I’ve seen they only fit for 20” stock rim models. Thank you

You don't have to have 20" wheels to have flares. X5 with msport come with flares from factory even with the 19" wheels.

We are running a 20", 275-40-20, square setup instead of staggered, on our 35d. Makes it easier for tire rotations, its a lot easier to find tires, and you don't have to worry about the tolerance of tire size front to rear. No M-Sport flares needed, looks good to me.

How is the ride and handling with those size tires ?
I've been thinking of doing squared 20" but haven't heard from anyone yet. I have x-line with factory 19s still.

Hi all,
I just bought 2016 X5 xdrive35d m sport.

It has 20” staggered setup. Can I swap to 275-40-20 all they around? Will this effect anything related to the xdrive awd system?

Thanks

Delayed response.... I felt no change in ride, or handling. At least nothing I didn't like.

275 is too narrow for the 11" wide rear wheel.
