Some how, some way... AOA got the SQ7 cleared for the US/NAR. No idea if it will ever be sold but has received the green light to be sold. I am curious if this is a preemptive measure by BMW to get customers who may consider an SQ7 or have an interest in a high-output diesel but that being said I do not see it anywhere on the Canadian sites.

A Few people have done this with the 4M Q7 because of options that were not available in the initial release of the Q7 but were in Canada.

I had been waiting a long time for the SQ7 .. I finally gave up and got my 50i. Not sure which way I would have went had the SQ7 been available when I picked up my 50i.

It is tentatively slated for release January 2018. I am not holding my breath. AOA promised us received a green light for the B9 RS4 Avant and a C7 RS6 Avant and neither ever materialized. With the amount of money they are losing on the TDI scandal I do not see these niche projects ever coming to fruition stateside. (IMO)
The new SQ5 is the only sporty SUV offering at the moment and even that isn't that exciting without upgrades and modifications.

In the UK the M50d is about the same price as the 50i M Sport and £4600 more than the 50i SE.

It is a whopping £23,000 cheaper than the X5M!

These are all "on the road" prices and there are big discounts to be had on the M50d at least. No experience of haggling on the X5M but a mainstream car broker is quoting 15% savings.

I managed to get a 17.5% discount back in December on a fully spec M50d.
Bit of haggling needed between two dealerships but got what I wanted.
Saying that my deposit was £20k on a 4.9% 4 year PCP.

bumping this up, looks like they removed the M50D option, so maybe it was a mistake in the first place?

Emailed my Sales Agent and he said it must have been an error. I still have the link as I had not closed my browser and it still works. Personally I think it may have been posted too early.

Does this link work for you or does it work for me because it's in my cache somewhere

Nothing happens by accident, pretty sure this is legit. The dash hump is even on the correct side.

Selling my 401k now and provisioning the funds on Monday.

i HIGHLY suspect someone at BMW headquarters mixed up the region where the M50D sub page should be deployed on. Looking at the site, the power unit used is kW and Nm where as in canada it should be HP and lb-ft. I think this M50D page should be in BMW austrailia's website as it uses a very similar website layout as the canadian version.

Lightbulb Conspiracy ??

How can the BMW X5 M50D have approximately 50% more horsepower and torque than the X5 35D and get 50% better fuel mileage ?? Maybe that's why they won't bring it to the US ?? Because if this vehicle with this much power can get a average of 35 mpg combined city/highway, where the X5 35D only gets 22 mpg combined, then everyone will be confused and start to actually think ?? The US consumes the majority 50% or 75% of the worlds fuel with their fuel guzzling vehicles and we wouldn't want to stop that..., RIGHT !!! I call out the auto industry to be in collusion with the oil industry ! Any thoughts, or am I a complete Nut Job Conspiracy Theorist ??? I'd love to get this race car SUV that gets AWESOME fuel economy ! I'd even get it from Canada and throw a dealer plate on it for 3 to 5 years until I'm ready to re-sell it, back in Canada.

It does seem strange that this is not available in the USA
To be clear consumption can vary quite a lot on the M50d, depending on the way you drive it and I've noticed even the tyres you put on it can make a difference. Summer RFTs compared to Winter non RFTs can reduce the mpg by up to 10%
I would say I am averaging low 30s in European mpg (is the US mpg slightly different?).
The three turbos help generate the extra power, especially when setting the gears and car to sport mode.
Would I have anything different - definitely not!
Not quite as quick as the X5M but a dam sight better fuel consumption - so you get the benefit of both worlds!
Hopefully the M50d will arrive in the States with the new generation X5 in the new year.

A gallon in the UK (imperial gallon) is 1.2 US gallons.

Neither. It is CARB/EPA/NHTSA. Stringent emission laws and standards make this difficult to produce to meet and still make profit with such a small demand for the product to begin with. Secondly federalization of an entirely new drivetrain for a small amount of units that will or may sell is just not worth the cost it would take to make legal here. If you crunch the numbers and look it at from their POV you can see why it is not available here.
