Anyone with Painted Headlights?!

Did a quick search and couldn't find anything so I was wondering if anyone had taken their LEDs apart and painted the chrome to black etc?

Saw the featured Ferrari red M3 had it done and it looks amazing!

Am still debating whether to tint front lights, smoke rears!
Dont need more temptations to paint my LEDs to black!

Haven't seen it on an X5, when we had our Infiniti G37 Coupe, lots of people had the headlight assemblies taken apart and custom painting inside as well has custom LED arrangements (halo's, etc). Looked good but if not done right the assemblies leaked afterwards. A reputable company(s) was charging around $500 bucks for the custom work. Not sure I would spend that kind of $$$$, the LED Angel Eye's stock look pretty good.

I would never tint the headlights or tailights. I was following someone the other day that had tinted tail lamps and I could hardly see the lights when he braked. Stupid if you ask me .... and I'm sure the owner of the tinted tail lights would be liable if got rear ended.

That's the reason I'm hesitant, in addition to looks!

Those look gorgeous and I would have done it long time ago if not for perma-seal BMW uses in their headlights. As a DIY - it will take a lot of hours to properly open them without messing anything up, cleaning and removing old adhesive, doing paint job and resealing everything back with BMW sealant

If you can do it or have someone nearby that can do it for a good price - go for it!

Ya I did it on my amg. It was much easier though. No experience with perma seal. With my amg lights I just need to get them enough open to get a blade in to do the rest. Then just reheated them and sealed em back up. Is perma seal harder to work with? I'll have to message the guy who's red m3 that is and see what he did.

If F15 headlights are like E70 in terms of sealant, etc., then you better have a spare set of lense covers as it's almost impossible to save the original ones during dissasembly.

You could delid the headlight but it requires you to put your $3,500+ Led (per piece) head light in the oven at 200*F-250*F for a 1-2 hrs to melt the bonding agent, and using xacto knives and pry bars to help open hoping that you don't damage the plastic housing or lense, after painting and all you have to make sure that its water tight or else your going to have water building behind the lense and possible shoring out the electrical components of the headlights.

All in all its not really worth the hassle, just pure cosmetic purpose.

Oh yes as I mentioned I've done this before. Putting them in the oven on low heat doesn't damage them. But if the sealant is bookoo tough then idk
