Diesel fill up MESS :-O
I have never used the provided Diesel Misfueling Adapter nozzle provided with my 2011 X5 35d or my current 2017 X5 35d.
The Shell station I always use (local, very convenient, great prices, clean, modern and I get Shell Fuel Rewards) was super busy this morning. Only one pump that has diesel was available. I noticed right away, that something was wrong...the nozzle would not enter my fuel tank. The tip of the nozzle was snapped off, and looked very different from the other 4-5 diesel pumps there. I needed fuel, could not wait for another pump...so I used the BMW adapter nozzle. All was perfect, until it wasn't :-O The diesel pump shot out of the nozzle, and covered ME, the car, the rim, tire and all over the ground! Me and the car dripping with thick, diesel oil! I complained and alerted the Attendant that the nozzle was broken....this was only after she yelled at me for putting diesel in a BMW since she told me "BMW does not have diesel", LOL!! I have washed so many times, and I still reek of diesel and the inside of our garage now at home smells like a refinery! I never wish for or want a Tesla...except this morning! Hope y'all have a better, and cleaner, Saturday! |

Thanks, but no it was not a truck stop gas station, nor was the pump for a truck. After I walked the attendant around to the other pumps, she confirmed the pump/nozzle I used was snapped off & broken. She took a picture of the defective pump I used and then a few of the "good" pumps to send to the station owner!
What a MESS today. The smell in our home garage is awful now. The material in the wheel well, BMW uses for insulation is saturated with diesel oil now. Gross. I wonder how long for the smell to go away?! |

This happened to me in Arizona once. I did not get covered but it spilled everywhere! I left the pump in the tank as it filled. When it finished it shot out like a rocket.

YES....it literally shot out like a rocket!! Everywhere. I drove by the station a few hour later, and the aftermath could still be seen :-O Cannot believe they did not mop it up. It is a very modern, clean Shell station in a somewhat upscale area!

Diesel has a heavy oil base. You need a oil dissolving detergent, Dawn or equivalent. Your clothes, through them away.

Yeah, I had to throw my clothes away
I have cleaned the inside of the passenger rear wheel well 3x with Simple Green and high pressure water...and the diesel smell will not go away. Our entire BIG garage literally reeks of diesel oil/fuel. Perhaps I should try washing the felt insulation material in the wheel well with Dawn?! Thanks for the idea! |

Let’s face it: the smell of diesel is kind of manly. Your garage *should* smell like diesel!
