Original Warranty Expiring
Hi All, my original warranty is expiring in a few weeks on my 2014 50i and I have 1 yr of CPO on top. CPO does not cover everything and it costs $50 a pop for any repairs covered. I've got 46k miles on it now and no issues, but was wondering if I should have it inspected for anything unusual or potential issues. For example have the turbo inspected for wear.... Let me know your thoughts.

Sunroof...I just bought a cpo 2015 that was still under the original warranty. My sunroof was working fine. I brought it to have everything looked at before original warranty was up. They found cracks in sunroof mechanisms and replaced entire sunroof under warranty..no copay. But if they hadn't checked I never would have asked because it was working fine. They saved me a $4k out of warranty sunroof repair that was eventually coming my way.

firstbimmer...you are lucky, and have a wonderful dealer. Most car dealerships, not just BMW, will not actively search and look for things that "could" break. That they inspected your fully functioning sunroof and then did what would have been a $4k repair is unheard of. Amazing, but NOT the norm for car dealers!

My warranty (and maintenance is going out also), the dealer did all the services that wasn’t required for another 3000-4000 miles, warranty service and everything. I was pretty happy with the proactive service. Granted I do tend to buy service stuff like oil from the dealer. (BMW factory oil is cheaper than the Pennzoil/Shell sold by many shops.)

Pre-Purchase Inspection.
Try your steering column servos - tilt and in-out zooming of steering column. If they make grinding sound - that's the bad sign. That's the only known common issue on f15 so far. Also, open your hood, take flashlight and just carefully inspect all hoses, plastic shields etc - look in the creases etc - you only looking for sings of oil. You don't have to be a mechanic to spot oil in otherwise pristine area. Imaging you are a housewife and are looking for a leak under your sink. Anyone can do it. If you see some oil - let the dealership know P.S. With that been said - I'm in same situation, only extra 1 year of CPO left and I would like to know what exactly CPO covers or not covers compared to original warranty. I think many owners will be in same situation as we will have a lot of 2014 models with original 4 year warranty expiring in 2018 |

Mine just expedited this month but I bought the extended warranty the day after I bought the 50i last summer. Only had 19k miles then so got a great deal on one. Not a CPO.
