Fan running time

After each run, the fan continues to stay on for at least 10 minutes after I switch off the car. Never heard that on my E70 unless I had done a fast / long run, is that normal behaviour?

Normal. My X5M and M5 both do that.

pvr, you might want to put everything back in comfort mode for the last 2 mile drive back to where you are parking after an aggressive run. I have been doing this since I started driving my car and the fan doesn't stay on as long. It has to do with keeping the engine cool. So it makes sense to do that.

There is a side issue worth considering: the fan and the water pump(s) both use quite a bit of electrical power that eats into the life cycle of the battery - so, if possible, when you stop the engine it pays to attach a battery charger as soon as you can - in my case, everytime back home, it takes 30 secs.

I use an 8 amp CTEK, it may be left attached indefinitely.

----

Some (boring) guesstimate numbers: a 100 Ah AGM battery in real life may last 100 full cycles, meaning 10.000 Ah.

Fan & pumps for 15 minutes may use (20 A x .25 h=) 5Ah, say twice a day for 300 days it's 3.000 Ah - it's already 1/3 of the battery life...

I have my car for 3 years and 90 000km on it and I've never had an issue with the batteries ...

If you want to connect your car to electricity everyday , you should consider getting an hydride plug-in

I see that you live in Belgium. Try living somewhere with winter temperatures that drop well below freezing on a regular and extended basis, and we'll see if you still have no battery issues...

My car sleeps in a closed and heated garage.

But in the winter , we often have low temperatures ... -10° celsius , sometimes even -15°.

Ajob lives in Monaco , and the weather is very mild.

Normal, the fans runnin still after shutdown is to cool down your turbos. Notice if you push it really hard and shut it down not long after, the fan stays on for even longer
