Google Maps/Waze Navigation not heard via Bluetooth connection

I recently purchased a 2015 and have my iPhone connect via BT but when using Google Maps/Waze I don't hear anything through speakers or phone. I attempted software update but said it was not compatible or something to that nature. BT for calls works fine. I believe I have the NBT iDrive version. Am I missing something?

Ive found with mine that if you are have not selected your phone (through idrive Multimedia option) the BT does not work. In other words, at least with mine, if im listening to another source, the idrive will not allow BT audio to trump another source and then switch back (ie to give turn by turn instructions)

Id be curious if there is a way around this but have not yet found one

You have to go to your head unit and select "External Storage" or External USB... I don't remember...

just press the Media button on your iDrive

Thanks mpapa01, I would at least expect it to still hear off the phone like i do in my Lexus. The only work around I found is entering destination from BMW Connect app to car (faster than entering on car Navi).

In order for the Google maps instructions to play over BT when you're not listening to music from your phone, you'll need to change a setting in Google maps. In the settings for Google Maps there's an option to Play as Bluetooth Phone Call. Try enabling that.

Thanks e.petros I'll give it a try. I don't use GM/Waze that often but was wondering why I didn't hear anything from car of my phone when I used it last. I managed to test and get audio from my phone using Waze the other day going into the settings and changing it in there. I'll give suggestion a try using GM.
