If it's a 50i with the stock exhaust then no, it is not movable.

If it’s the stock exhaust for the M sport, 35i, those tips aren’t adjustable. If someone did the upgrade for you and you have the M Performance Exhaust, those tips are adjustable.

I have to assume that this is just the stock m sport exhaust that is not adjustable. One interesting thing I noticed was that there is a nice growl at startup and idling but I really don't think it's the M. Is there lie screws to adjust the tips? If so, pretty sure I don't see anything.

The tips are clamped on to the muffler if it’s the MPE. Stock is just one solid pipe. If you get up under the car, it will say if it’s the MPE right in the middle of the muffler.

Thanks!

I'm pretty sure it is not the MPE as I just found a thread talking about how the stock exhaust has a nice rumble at cold start.

Thanks Nick for all the good info.

With all this info...is there basically no way to correct the uneven placement of the tips? Is this how it comes from factory?

Have you looked under the the rear to see if the pipes are clamped or one solid piece?
Take a photo and I can tell you right away if it is MPE or not.. If it is MPE then you can adjust the exhaust tips to even it out.

No problem! They should be straight if it’s the stock exhaust, unless an accident had occurred as someone else mentioned. It would be easy for the MPE to be crooked. I had to cut the pipe just before the muffler, but luckily I knew what I was doing. Had someone else tried to install and didn’t know what they were doing, cutting that pipe at a slight angle would have caused those tips to be uneven. Considering it was my first time installing, I’d say a little bit of luck came into play. There were no instructions as to where to cut the old exhaust, unfortunately for some I’m sure.

Carfax reported no accidents but now I am paranoid. I took a look at the paint and I see some white paint on the red rear markers...

I don't think there is nothing I can do because if it was in an accident...it was never reported.

A lot of things don't get reported to Carfax so you can't trust it 100%.

Why not just bend down to see if the muffler says M performance?

Yeah I didn't see anything so I'm pretty sure it's not. I just read that the muffler looks exactly the same as the stock so I wasn't sure what I was looking for.

The white overspray on the exhaust tips tells me that's been repainted. And that tip should not stick out like that.

Had a similar issue with our F15, took it to dealership - they align the exhaust tips by adjusting the rear bumper and now it's sitting flush as it should!

Repainted without first removing the bumper, very unprofessional.

These are the MPE tips ( minus the black paint ).

See how it is cut and needs to be clamped to the muffler. If there is no clamp on your muffler tips then it is stock. As far as adjusting the stock exhaust I am not sure, but I suspect as LocksmithNick mention earlier it appears that the muffler has been replaced and cut incorrectly at the pipes and is affecting the alignment of the tips. Also considering the over spray noted by LocksmithNick it appears your car had a mishap in the rear section of the X5.

Seeing as you’re in Boston, it probably got bumped while parallel parked and someone did a quick fix.

This is why it's a good idea to get a PPI on a used car. They could've suggested that it may have had previous bodywork before you bought it

I doubt there is anything that I can do now...I doubt the private dealership would say that they knew about any repairs since carfax doesn't report anything. Overall the car seems like it's in in great condition.

I have a few things I want bmw to look at since it's still under the original warranty so I'll see if they'll fix the alignment.
