This same person just tried to scam me. Sent me a message saying he had a Vorsteiner lip for sale. Similar message "$350 shipped, where are you located?" including some fuzzy photos that are from a different post from a different user on this forum. Pieces of shit...

@moderators (if there are any??) This user Layp22 has 16,000 rep. But only 10 posts... This seems like some sort of manipulation of data in order to seem like a legit user...
Or he got the moderators account and can see everyone's post… makes it easy to see when everyone is looking for things.

Have not received anything from Fast50 so far, but good to note here for everyone to keep an eye out - thanks!

From what I can tell with the last few scammers, the Mods here take a few days to ban their account and in doing so emails/comments no longer exist. I'm not sure if that approach is better than keeping the account visible but reflecting the tag of "banned", but maybe wait out potential deals (when questionable) a week to let Mods flush the seller out.

Might be fine, but was confusing to me. This is what I received, he's asking for me to sell but then it sounds like he's selling so I figured I'd ask you guys just in case. (I'm not interested in buying/selling either way, this is just for good measure...)

"Winter set up

Would you be willing to sell the winter set up?

611M Winter Set in Gloss Black - Brand new tires and custom IND black wheel roundels

If so, let me know my man.

Thanks

I'd be very careful - from my own experience and what others described, this is a similar fashion of communication where we can't tell if the person is buying or selling. Good to question this situation

If he asks you to text him or email, then it's the scammer. Never use Zelle for online payments unless it's friends or family

I was scammed by Tonber for 1000$ selling Rk intakes.. I contacted police about the situation and they said there's ways to track account info that my money was transferred too and they'll hunt them down.. this shit happens a lot and it was deff my mistake sending money by Zelle but never used Zelle and thought it was like PayPal (protected) but it's not so my advice is to never use Zelle and always ask around about seller before buying.. it sucks for the real people that actually stick by there word.. I brought my kw v3 ($2500) and rear calipers upgrade ($1200) sent with PayPal and talked to sellers before I bought items and all went well but u still have these scum bags that'll try scam u.. also after I figured out it was a scam I went on google and typed in this scum bags Zelle name and another post from here popped up with guy trying to buy roof rails for his x3 from same guy and got scammed so just a simple thing like checking google might've helped me not get robbed.. stay safe

He just messaged me telling me to text 470-222-4744. I'm extremely cautious so I don't fall for scams as I've been in the online sales world for many moons

The biggest giveaway is to check their carrier with https://www.freecarrierlookup.com/ and if it's a weird text app it will tell you

Don't EVER send any money to anyone unless you are using a service that protects you aka never zelle, cashapp, or venmo. Always use Paypal Goods & Services

Also check their post history, google their number, etc. Ask for tagged pictures too with today's date on a piece of paper. DON'T TRUST ANYONE ONLINE

Good catch Taran…

The MO seems to be to see you interested in something for sale. They then contact you, saying they have the part you were interested in, if you're not paying attention, you don't notice it's not the person from the for sale thread. They'll ask you to text them or email them. They then try to get you to Zelle the $ and never send you anything.

If this happens to you, local police don't care, banks can't/won't do anything. Contact the IC3, they will compile and go after them. This is their job, it's the internet crime bureau of the FBI. They will ask you for everything you have, Zelle info, site, PMs, etc. The mods can see the IPs for the users, they can report that if asked and while I'm sure they're using a VPN and just doing this to multiple forums etc, eventually these morons slip up. They leave similar footprints all over and IC3 compiles them and will hit them hard if caught. My scammer went to jail.

Brandbxx and wreckedmyx5m both pmd me trying to sell me parts. Positively were scammers. The forums seem to be getting a lot of this now.

See my response to the Klassen F85 ad. I called them out there. Same losers trying to scam us.

I said it before and Ill say it again. The forum need to step up their game and start mandating payment types as well as pictures for the ads and contact info, or else this will continue.

And as buyers/consumers we need to get back to the days where we actually converse with people to feel them out.

And check out that ad because you have longtime "members" trying to prove us wrong and defend the scammers. The problem could be bigger than we realize!

There were only two people on that thread that "defended" the OP of that thread, with me being one of them so are you insinuating something negative about me in your sentence about "long time "members" defending scammers"? As stated there, I was giving that OP the benefit of the doubt and another member said he was texting with that OP directly. I wasn't defending scammers. If the OP of that thread is indeed a scammer then I've been fooled too.

I've actually been scammed before when I posted a WTB thread for a stealth hitch. Someone PM'ed me with a number of someone selling one for $300. I was so excited that I Venmoed that person right away and almost the instant I clicked send, I had a bad feeling. As luck would have it, someone else PM'ed me saying he had one to give away and I found a friend who lived near him to pick it up.

Anyway, I know you're trying to alert the community here and I've done it before as well but I also try to look at a poster's history and such before making assumptions. Agree that we all have to be vigilant and maybe the mods/admins need to send out a warning message to all members and do it through PM in case people don't see a post here.
