2017 X5 production has started!
I figured that there would be a few folks who would be curious and want to know.
At least one 2017 X5 has started production at Spartanburg. My 2017 X5 xDrive40e went into production yesterday and is expected to be completed in the middle of next week. |

I have a 2017 40e lined up but I was told that the new model year still hasn't been fully government certified and as of right now when they are finished they will just be stored and can't be shipped to the dealer until they are certified.
Has yours finished production yet and have you heard anything? Just hoping that it'll get resolved before mine gets started. |

My X5 was finished on Wednesday and my dealer has been expecting delivery to take a week or two after completion. A quick call to the BMW CS number says the same "Your vehicle is complete and is waiting to be released to the carrier" message that it has played since Wednesday night.
I've asked my dealer if there's any delays. He's checking again but all he's heard about was the hold on diesels while they were verified by the EPA. |

athanyel , do you mind sharing your deal?
Did you get the tax credit from federal or local government? I just test drove the 40e, it really surprised me how it pulls.

The low-end electric torque is a different experience. Most of my driving is on city streets and the smooth even torque is just amazing. |

Not yet...but my X5 hit the "Your vehicle was released to a carrier and is awaiting transportation to the port of exit" status on the BMW phone system.
Once my car is here, I'll post up pictures...but there are no real visible changes between the 2016 and 2017 from everything I've read. There are paint changes (-mineral silver, +atlas cedar) and some changes to the white nappa leather package The 40e won't get the "iPerformance" changes (blue grill, blue rings around the roundels, etc.) until December from what I've read. If I end up with a partially blue X5...well, that'll be unexpected. |

Federal tax credit is $4,668 (https://www.irs.gov/businesses/30d-n...-north-america).
California likely has additional credits or incentives. Last edited by athanyel; 08-06-2016 at 05:09 PM.. |

Mine was supposed to finish on Friday, and as of then my CA still didn't know, but he keeps trying to find answers. He knew it was time sensitive for me so I'm hoping they get their crap in order. If I end up in an HRV because of this I'm going to be pissed.

Just to give everyone a heads up (and general timeline).
Ordered 2017 X5 on 7/11/16 Production started 7/21/16 Production complete 7/29/16 At VPC 7/30/16 Estimated delivery to dealer 8/4/16 Automated telephone system only says "released to carrier, awaiting pickup to port etc. . ." BMW Genius stated work order has not started at VPC Called CA to look into what's going on, he sent an email to the VPC on 8/10. Got a call from my CA on 8/12 that car should be released from VPC sometime in the next week. Got a call today 8/15 from my CA that work order at VPC has been completed, and car is officially released to carrier. Expecting dealer delivery mid/end of week and delivery to me by end of week/weekend. Found out car was processed through VPC on 8/13, with an estimated dealer delivery is 8/16. So it looks like MY2017 x5's are finally being processed through the Spartanburg VPC and shipping out to dealers and us. quick update (8/17): 2017 x5 35i Vehicle was processed through the VPC 8/13 Awaiting transport 8/13 original estimated dealer delivery 8/16 Automated message today (8/17) said "vehicle is being transported to destination" Got a call from my CA, vehicle was picked up yesterday 8/16, estimated to my NE located dealer arrival 8/19 All goes to plan, paperwork on Friday and I should be picking up Monday of next week. I finally got a bit more information from BMW CS. My 2017 X5 40e is in an "Engineering Data Release" state which, according to some digging around online, matches up with the whole "EPA needs to certify the 2017 X5's fuel economy ratings" bit we've been hearing.
That said, I've checked the official site (www.fueleconomy.gov) and now see all of the trims EXCEPT the 40e have been assigned ratings. I would guess that they should start leaving the VPC soon. ...back to waiting I go... |
