Cool On the fence: BMW maintenance plan

I am the second owner of nice 2015 3.5i X5 with 13K miles on it.
To transfer maintenance plan BMW gave me quote for $700, which should cover me till 2019 or 50K miles.
Where do I find detailed maintanence plan to figure out if it makes sense to buy it from them. Oil change and filters are relatively cheap, but brakes etc.
Thanks!

Is it a private owner sale or through the dealership? I would first run the vin through Carfax if you haven't done so. Any major service repair issues (that u know of) during the first 13k miles? Is it a daily driver or a weekend kinda of a thing?

Talk to me more about transferring the maintenance plan. I am the second owner of my X5 and the original owner told me he bought an extended warranty plan all the way to 100K miles or 2021. Is your dealership saying they will transfer that for $700? That plan itself (at least the one I have) originally cost $2,100. Who did you talk to about this?

I just did some research, and found this:

MP Refresh 48M/50K $700.00

That's probably the one they quoted you, a fee to reinstate the maintenance on the car you bought second hand. But then there's this:

MP 36 MO/75K MLS $935

I suppose that's a 3 year, 75K miles maintenance program for $935.

You might be right. Basically I need to pay $700 to BMW to reinstiate free maintenance. I am not sure what is the rule for extended warranty if it transferable or not. I bought third party warranty for 75K more miles.

But my question is actually about maintenance schedule? Like service A. B C etc. Where can I find it for 3.5i F15 2015?

I bought it from wholesale dealer, it was in short term lease originally (probably to BMW related person), clean carfax. It is in very good condition, the vehicle even had a smell of new car.

wow to reinstate warranty?!? I bought a used 2011-335i back in 2012 and BMW never charged me anything to get it "transferred"
Just might be a stealership trying to get a few free bucks, I'd talk to BMW NA if needed, this is a bogus charge.

Good idea, I may ask BMW NA. My previous X5 was certified preowned, so maintenance was included. I assume if you by from private party or wholesale dealership you'd have to pay.

Anyhow, can anybody point me to typical maintenance breakdown for X5 till 100,000 miles?

Ask mechanic about how much thickness left on brakes, and then ask yourself how much city or hilly terrain driving do you expect to encounter in the next 37K? That should tell you whether you'll reach 50K before a brake job. Otherwise its oil/filter intervals about every 10K - save your money and pay for them a la minute.

For the next 100K (assuming you intend to keep it well beyond), I would R/R transmission, differentials & transfer case fluids @ 50K and drive belt @ 60K - but the MP will not cover these. Other than that nothing mechanical should breakdown between now and then.

no. rules have changed as of 1.1.14.
if you purchase from private party cpo transfers for $200.
if you purchased from a dealer they have to apply a new cpo it can no longer be transferred.

maintenance program:
http://www.bmwusa.com/Standard/Conte...eoverride=true

NON-TRANSFERABILITY
These maintenance programs are available to the exclusive benefit of the initial purchaser, owner, or lessee of a new vehicle, sales demonstrator vehicle, Aftersales Mobility Program vehicle, or BMW Group company vehicle from an authorized BMW center in the United States (including Puerto Rico). Coverage is not transferable to subsequent purchasers, owners, or lessees. The sole exception to the non-transferability of coverage is that household transfers—transfers within the United States (including Puerto Rico) to members of the household of the initial purchaser, owner, or lessee of a BMW vehicle from an authorized BMW center—will not terminate coverage. Household transfers are limited solely to transfers to a current or former spouse or spousal equivalent, child, sibling, parent, grandparent, or grandchild from the initial purchaser, owner, or lessee of a vehicle. In the event of a household transfer, purchasers, owners, or lessees of a BMW vehicle should promptly advise their authorized BMW center to document and confirm the household transfer for purposes of coverage. The payoff of a loan on a vehicle by the initial purchaser and the purchase of a leased vehicle by the initial lessee are not considered transfers for purposes of coverage.

I was not able to find detailed schedule. Maintenance section of 2015 X5 xDrive 35i owners manual has the following statement.

Quote:
Sensors and special algorithms take into ac‐
count the driving conditions of your vehicle.
Based on this, Condition Based Service recog‐
nizes the maintenance requirements.
The system makes it possible to adapt the
amount of maintenance corresponding to your
user profile
I believe they used to put it before for older models, but now the decided not to do this and dumb it down.

I called to BMW NA customer service to transfer car under my name and account for BMW assist, in case I need to remotely unlock it and stuff.

After that I went to one of the dealerships to shop for that transfer of maintenance plan, and I was told by a manager (he read info from key), that the car is under my name and therefore maintenance is free till 50K. Thats weird, right? Cos on the phone before I did the BMW assist transfer they had quoted me $700.

Have him print a DCS report that shows this and keep it in the car.
