Yes, just don't go to the dealer they'll try to sell you a new tire. Go to Discount Tire, they'll plug for free regardless if you're a customer or not. I usually tip the tech $10 and that'll make his day.

You can plug as long as the nail didn't puncture the sidewalls.

Location would be an issue, but I have plugged Bridestone RF and even Pirelli's RF despite their stated policy opposing this action. See my thread below:

I have a brick nail in the tread. I am literally waiting for the tire shop to mount the patched tire now. 35 bucks and 30 minutes. $25 labor plus $10 tip.

Thanks all for the quick responses. It's always a pleasure dealing with this community. Especially when I know I'm not the first person to ask this, and a normal forum would have jumped down my throat for not searching.

Should be no problem. I had a nasty nail on the shoulder of the tire (where the tread meets the sidewall), it was a run-flat too. I had one shop plug it for me and had no issues.

I'm told you're supposed to plug it and do the hot patch method from inside the tire for run flat tires, but the answer is yes you can as long as it's not on the sidewall.

Yup! That's what I had done. They took the tire off the rim, plugged and patched from the inside. Put it back on the rim, balanced it, and then mounted back on the X5.

Also, the manager pulled me aside and showed me the price he gets for my Michilin Latitude Tour HP for $267. A far cry from the $400+ the dealer will be charging. Granted, I've got only 8,500 Miles on my tires - they're brand new. But good to know I can save some money when the time comes.

I've had several plugs put in my Pirelli RFT's (PZeros and Ice & Snow), never had an issue. As said above, the location of the puncture can affect things.

They are $241 a piece at TireRack. Course, after shipping probably a wash compared to your tire guys price.
