LMAO - dude I think most people on here would agree with you.....BUT I think the VAST majority of the public as a whole would not. How many non-BMW (etc) owners have you heard discuss the finer points of performance of their cars? I bet the majority of car owners could not tell you how many HP their car makes......if they could even tell you how many cylinders it has. We are car people, so we think about such things, but the majority of people are not. And how do you get a non car person to try a BMW? You make it a vain status symbol (done) and you pack it with gadgets to impress non performance people. Once you OWN a performance oriented car - it is hard to go back, but getting a non performance car person to shell out 70-100K for a car is tough.

You need gadgets in the car to make your car "sparkle like a holiday" to steal a saying from Rainman.

BMW has to market to it's own crowd AND attract new customers. You care a lot about total performance. Most car owners want to be entertained 24/7 including their 11 minute putt putt drive to work and the store each day.

If all I cared about were the radio controls, I’d drive a Nissan. But if you go out and test drive some cars, you notice a difference once you sit in a BMW. The way the leather feels, the way the door close sounds, and then you drive it. Then you really understand the difference. But never once in a test drive has the volume knob sold me lol.

Saw one on the road yesterday.. it looks every bit as weird and awkward as it does on photos. Love the interior minus the weird crystal glass gear shifter, but the exterior is a let down. My F15 Msport looks many times better to me.

Which is a total gimmick! I mean, if that is what is expected to drive sales the automobile industry - as a whole, is in serious trouble.

In all fairness to BMW, I understand the front grill needs to be larger to accommodate and allow much more air flow for these engines. That has been the auto trend for many years (bigger grills) I think started by Audi and Lexus almost a decade ago. BMW of course is late in the game. But I wish BMW designed the huge grills a bit more sporty. The X7 is a joke too.

Maybe that will be addressed with the LCI? We’ll see.

We were at the dealer today, and they had a nice white one there. Laser headlights, M-sport package, 50i. Sticker was 90,750. I too hate the rear end, but the inside is actually quite nice, and the new X5 as a whole is not that bad, it looks good. Except for the rear end, that looks like a Jeep, or Durango, or Mini-van, or any other main stream vehicle on the market....

It is leaps and bounds better than the 2018 X2 I just spent the last two days driving. I will NEVER EVER buy one of those.

Are you sure it was an X5? Could have been an X3! I can't tell them apart!

THIS. They made the X5 the X3 doppelgänger.

As to the X2 comment. I agree, it’s a horrible vehicle. I had one as a loner for a week and hated driving that thing. Felt like it was all over the road, powerless, cheap and cramped.

Yeah I was right behind it and saw the X5 badge. But yeah it's just a bigger X3.

Agreed, X1 and X2 are both horrible.

Both grills are big; however, the X3 grills look a bit more reasonable in scale. There’s just something off about the G05 grills.

The G05 grill connects in the middle and appear to be one solid grill. I think that might be the main difference, proportionally they seem to be identical.

It’s the extra 3 inches on the bottom side of the grill that throws it off. I saw one at the dealership sitting right next to an F15 and immediately realized what they had done. F15 has that extra cut out under our kidneys, but G05 got rid of that and just extended the kidneys south an extra few inches, making it look ridiculous.

Yes - I believe the “connect” makes the difference.

I think the front view of X3 looks proportionally better than the X5.

Saw one while dropping my kids off yesterday. It was a non-MSport. Looks like a bigger new bodystyle X3. Maybe I will like the MSport version better...
