Tire & Wheel insurance

I'm heading into the dealer to pick up my new X5 on Saturday. I opted for a no-line version with the 18" wheels. With my X3, I declined the tire & wheel insurance and would've basically broken even as I needed to replace 3 tires over a 2.5 year period at about $400 per tire.

I know there is some debate about the necessity of this insurance and I don't want to rehash that argument. My question is what is the right price to pay for this coverage from the dealer? I know it can be negotiated so I just want to go in knowing what price I want to pay, assuming that I end up getting it.

Anything else I should consider? The Pirelli OEMs have a one year road hazard warranty, right? Do any of the other OEM tires have this coverage? Out here in Philadelphia the roads are crap. Pretty sure one of the potholes that bubbled my tire on the X3 came about as close as you could get to cracking or bending the wheel. Certainly if that would've happened I would've been wishing I bought the insurance the first time.

Thanks!

With your tire size, I highly doubt you would have any issues with damages.
I would save your money. This is just my opinion.

I am in the pot hole capital (chicagoland) and I have only had 1 tire issue since I was 16. Insurance is nothing more than a hedge. Pay some money now in the event that when you need it, it will cover expensive repairs. The tire/rim insurance is pretty expensive for what you get.

Save your money. Large profit center for both the dealer and the insurance company. Just my 2 cents.

Not for X5's IMO. I found it extremely useful on my E92 as its sidewall was so slim and I constantly had bubbles from all the pot holes in NJ. But in X5 I just run over all the pot holes like tank.

I thought the wheels were $1000 each to replace. I know the tires are $400.

I figured the X5 had basically the same tires as my 2013 X3 (LS2 run flats). I blew through three of those due to road hazards (1 pothole, 1 nail, amd one nasty piece of glass).

I think the cost is about 1500-1900 for the insurance and you should be able to bargain down to about 800-1300 respectively easy...

It works I used it on my 528 msport 2 times in 3 years so got my cost double back....

If it's an MSport package they aren't too flexible bum it in non msport you shouldn't have issues....

My tire and wheel insurance was $2,800... I declined even with 20" rims.

At $2800 it's an easy no. At $800 it's a much different story. My bias is to decline, but I'll see where it's offered.

Right, I forgot that I had replaced run flats with regular. I guess run flats are too fragile.

18" F15 has a larger sidewall than the 18" on your F25- I'd pass on insurance.

Thanks for that info. My X3 was Msport with the 19" wheels. Probably makes the F15 18" wheels even more durable in comparison.

Got the Wheel/Tire insurance with my lease. I usually decline but bought it his time because 1)it's a lease and 2)Louisiana has some of the poorest roads I have ever seen. All my co-workers that have been stationed here longer have recommended I purchase lifetime alignments and balancing.
