Waze audio when iPhone hardwired in

I took my first long drive today and I noticed the turn by turn instructions only work via Bluetooth when my iPhone isn't plugged in to the port in the armrest/ center console. I want to be able to plug in for charging and accessing media while still getting turn by turn through car speakers, is there a way to do that?

I run with either EL or Escort 360 and the EL smart cord comes with a power source for my iPhone. I have no problems with BT audio from EL when steaming music from my iPhone6S.

What is EL? So having waze audio while plugged into the car is not possible?

EL is Escort Live, a better way of getting radar/lidar reports than Waze but it works best when using a premium account with an Escort detector like RL or even the 360 that already gives one most info we want.

I don't know the answer to your original problem although if I have charged my iPhone directly from the port you are using and did not have a problem but then again it would be rare for me to use anything other than the EL smart cord but I thought the electronic issues would be the same.
