Happy wife.........!

Picked up our new 40e this past Thursday. I let my wife pick the colors. I wanted Mineral Silver but she chose Mineral White with the Mocca Nappa interior. Really looks classy! She loves it and if she loves it I do as well!

Too early to report on performance except to say that it doesn't lack in acceleration. It is quick!

Now for the learning curve (which I enjoy). One lesson learned already. We were having difficulty programming various aspects (seating position, etc.). We came to find out that when the door is opened for any reason the vehicle shuts down. An apparent safety feature. The doors must be closed with vehicle on to program anything.

Very nice.

We just got ours too. Only yesterday.

This is the wife's first car purchase in over 10.5 years. She is so overwhelmed with the technology and quietness coming from her Nissan Xterra. It's the little things - heated steering wheel, album cover art when streaming music, backup camera - that she loves.

Didn't hurt that these xdrive40e models are sitting on our local dealer's lot not being sold. Great deals can be had; especially with the lease.

Looks great and am glad your wife is happy, albeit overwhelmed. Mine is also struggling with the technology but once we get it set for her she'll be happy. I especially like the presetting of the departure time to preheat (or cool) the cabin.

I was seriously considering a lease but decided to purchase to take advantage of the federal tax credit which is only available when purchased (not sure why it is that way).

I have not decided if I will install a level two charger or not. I saw on one of your other posts that you plan to do so. What was your thinking, just curious.

Enjoy!

Hi, when leasing, I believe the tax credit is given to you as a discount off of MSRP if asked for, I had to ask(all plugin hybrids get this on leases if asked for). BMW Financial gets the tax credit since they would be the owner the vehicle, they will pass the credit along to lessor.

I'm trying to decide on upgrading my 2013 x5 to 2016 x5 e40.

Congrats!!

Level 2 is on order from Amazon. The wife's commute is perfect distance for all electric. Given the very good deal I got the added charger cost still below total cost for a gas X5. X5 parked right next to breaker panel so easy/cheaper install too.

Got lease because while I do love electric cars I'm not 100% convinced of battery and tech longevity. For me that's a big deal. First vehicle I've ever leased. Don't want to get 'stuck' with luxury hybrid worth very little after 3 or 4 years. Lease best way to assuage my fears.

What's the preheat/cool departure thing?

Totally understand your leasing decision. Too many variables!

Under "Settings" you will find "Departure Time" which allows you to preset when you will depart. Once that is set you can selected "Precond. for Departure" which will heat or cool to the preset temperatures associated with your individual profile. I hope that helps and if I can assist in any other way let me know. Of course we have had our 40e only several days longer than you have.

I am more concerned about the cost of disposal of these batteries. I think it is no coincidence that the founder of TESLA is learning how to launch rockets. Jettisoning them into space will probably be the only way to dispose of these batteries.

Don't get me wrong, though - electric cars are most likely the way of the future.

Oh, thanks for the help.

Got the X5 parked in the garage now so I don't think we'll need that most days. And this can be done with the BMW App that I've downloaded to my phone so my wife (she'll get the app too) I see. So the wife can pre-heat the X5 when it's parked outside when she's at work. That's nifty.
