F15 2016 X5 CPO Backlight instrument panel

Hi guys, I just wanted to thank everybody here for all the inputs I got ever since I joined this website. All you guys were very helpful for all the inputs that helped me buying the CPO X5. I took delivery last month and have been wondering the backlight of my instrument panel is not working. Except when I turn on the headlights. I would expect that at least during the day - it should be backlit with white light. I read a couple of forums it says you have to have a HUD in order for your instrument panel to be backlit? Can anybody provide any inputs?

It depends on the type of cluster you have basic one, 6WA or 6WB, also did you check your dimmer? Can you take a picture of the cluster do it's easier to understand what the problem is ( if there is a problem).

Is your headlight set on automatic?
Have your tried changing the color in idrive?
Are you talking about instrument cluster where speed is or buttons like the AC ones?

I am pretty sure my other cars without HUD still had backlit panels in the day. I have seen a basic instrument cluster which is not day time backlist in the X1/X3 but didn't think it was a NA option.

Headlights are set to automatic. Correct me if I am wrong the color in Idrive is not related to the instrument panel where the speed etc is.

I am not sure if my car doesn't have a backlit cluster or its an issue.

I think this is how basic cluster looks like. You can upgrade to 6WA or 6WB, someone put 6WA for sale recently.

In my F10 the basic cluster was always lit. That cluster is garbage and loved how the 6WA looked in my F15, so replaced the base to 6WA in the F10

I did notice that in the F15, on the bottom with the lines, during the day it is lit white and at night it is red. In the F10, it is always red on the bottom.

OP - Upgrade to 6WA, totally worth it.

Agree. Get the 6wa. The background is white during the day. Plus you get some other cool things.
